Decoration Day Observed by American Legion in City Ceremony

The American Legion and Auxiliary led a morning Decoration Day program starting with a parade from the Hidalgo Hotel to the Palace theatre. Hon. Alvan N. White delivered an inspiring address as Mayor Rosenstein, Rev. Mims, and Scout troops participated. The event honored fallen soldiers and urged peace through diplomacy and education, with ceremonies ending at local cemeteries and a luncheon hosted by the Legion.

Mrs Ralph Smith hosted two tables of bridge Thursday night in honor of Miss Lou Johnson sister of Mrs Tyra. Mrs J C Conner returned Tuesday from Los Angeles with her son Alfred and wife, and was accompanied by sister Mrs Wadson and her son U L of Tucson.

Lordsburg Cloverdale Road Meets Citizen Call For Federal Aid

A Monday gathering at Legion Hall Animas drew residents from Cloverdale to Lordsburg to push for a Lordsburg Cloverdale highway funded through the federal employment program. Gov. Seligman’s letter supported adding the road to state plans and the Highway Commission was urged to craft a practical project for federal aid.

Free Sports And Trade Day A Splendid Success

Lordsburg hosts a Free Sports and Trade Day on the last Saturday each month. The May event featured a close baseball game with a 6 3 score for the visitors, pony races led by Dimples owned by A G Carley, and dog on leash and boy races won by Spot and Rainbolt. An evening dance in the Small building followed a lively day with Los Cincos Cincopaters providing music. The next Free Sport and Trade Day is set for the last Saturday in June.

The Amerikan Legion defeated the Lions on Decoration Day afternoon with Evans Sherberg and Conner for the Lions and Farle Kerr Lister and Rows for the Legion. The Lions scored five to the Legion's eight as rain aided the country and Earle Kerr, starting in his youth, showed he still plays well.
