The second Hidalgo County trial of Samuel L. and Joseph Hunt ended with a jury verdict of manslaughter after a day of jury selection and witness testimony. Judge Mechem sentenced both defendants to 7 to 9 years and set bonds at 5000 each with appeals filed to the Supreme Court.

Beloved Teacher Eva Felton Dies in Alamogordo
The city school secretary and first grade teacher Miss Eva Felton died after a sudden illness. Her funeral at the Methodist church was arranged by Grant Leahy with Eastern Star honors. Schools closed and all business suspended for the service.
