Decoration Day Observance in Lordsburg Honors Fallen

Lordsburg observes Decoration Day with the cemetery association guiding a dignified program. Attendees hear speeches by Attorney A W Morningstar and Ralph S Spann, sing patriotic tunes, and recall sacrifices from Lexington to the Argonne, aiming for lasting peace and national unity.

Commencement exercises on Monday June 6 at 8 p m includes a class sermon by Dr Percy Knickerbocker. Wednesday June 8 at 8 p m features a school program with "The New Woman in the Shoe" and various acts in a Star Theatre medley.

Veterans Day Observance Honors Two War Dead

The ceremony featured speeches by Mrs. Ball and Attorney L. P. McHalffey praising the armed forces and the Boy Scouts who honored the flag. A bouquet was laid at the graves of Robert Swan and John Thomas at Mountainview Cemetery, with the Cemetery Association praised for arranging flowers. a post office donation jar was stolen.

Denver Capitalist Visits J. H. White

J G Nichols proprietor of the Savoy Hotel in Denver visited J H White to discuss the Last Chance mine and adjoining properties. Engineer White and California oil magnate Joe Crites joined the visit and reports say the outcome was very satisfactory, signaling growing interest in Lordsburg district.

Postmaster Hardin Receives Colt's Special Post

Postmaster M. Q. Hardin has received from Postmaster General Kavya a Colt's 45 Special with scabbard belt and cartridges to be worn when guarding the mails. In Lordsburg a lawful town, the armament is treated as an ornament rather than weaponry.

Miss Naomi Devine Clark Dies at 24

Naomi Devine Clark aged 24 died Sunday after noon May 20 after a long illness. She was daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A KK L Clark and lived with parents and sister Ana. Funeral from her home on Decoration Day with burial at Mountain view Cemetery. Alfred Brunk officiated. Grant Leahy handled arrangements. Many flowers were sent by friends and neighbors.

Miscellaneous Shower for Miss Helen Holt Before June Wedding

Miss Helen Holt, soon to wed Clifton Burney of Lordsburg, hosted a miscellaneous shower with fourteen guests. Attendees enjoyed guessing contests and a future peep at who will marry next, followed by a two course luncheon. Pink and white decor featured abundant flowers.

Prominent Arizonans Visit Tucson Leaders Honored

Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Woods and daughter of Tucson spend a few days with Dr. and Mrs. Crocker. Mrs. Woods is Margaret Mott, a former Lordsburg student. Mr. Woods serves as cashier of the Tucson National Bank and chairs Pima County Board of Supervisors, also directing the Chamber of Commerce.

Hazel Wallace entertained a company of little friends last week in honor of her twelfth birthday. She received many nice gifts. Mrs. Wallace served dainty refreshments.

Engineer E L Bandy Visits Townsend on Inspection Tour

District Engineer BE L Bandy of the state highway department toured Silver City with Mrs. Bandy and secretary Miss Josephine Dorn. He said dry weather leaves highways in fair condition and noted if Townsend bill passes New Mexico would pay a small share of federal highway construction with the government covering 68 percent. He plans to inspect the Virden bridge project soon.

The Southwestern Bankhead Highway Association was formed in Douglas on Saturday to advertise the route from coast to coast. Lordsburg was not represented. the meeting included the Chamber of Commerce president and directors, with Auto Club of Southern California and D. O. Bonedgress of Deming agreeing to handle publicity.

Mrs. C. Donaldson hosted a miscellaneous shower for Miss Itelen Holt last Tuesday afternoon. Golden Gowip club members and guests attended as lovely gifts were given. The house was decorated with Crimean rambler roses and a dainty two course luncheon was served by Deming Oraphie.

Felton laid to rest after El Paso funeral

Mers and Mrs Fr Coyle and Mies Whittle returned Thursday from El Paso where they received courteous treatment at the mutual of Mies Byra Felton. Simmons Hartford funeral directors oversaw the services. The Lordaburg school wreath stood out for its design and finish. The only services in El Paso were at the grave where Mr Coyle offered prayer.

The highbred Indehradieden dog Trouble died after the El Paso Veterinary Hospital used all efforts to save him. He was a favorite in two states and remembered for his intelligence.

Griffiths celebrate fifteenth anniversary with friends

Mr and Mrs Roy Griffith marked their fifteenth wedding anniversary on Monday evening. Guests included Mr and Mrs Belch Mr and Mrs Turner Mr and Mrs Patten Mr and Mrs Winslett and Mr and Mrs Coyle. Dainty refreshments were served. Several cut glass pieces were received.
