Railroader's Breakfast at Dutch Treat Saturday Morning

Railroader's Breakfast runs from 7:00 to 9:00 AM at the American Restaurant. Dutch Treat welcomes all with a hearty meal and a pair of contests, displays, and food offerings.

Richardson Twins Lead Animas High School Honors

Brian Richardson son of Chad and Janet Richardson is Valedictorian at Animas High School. He earned Boy's State Lieutenant Governor, Eagle Scout with 3 palms, All State football receiver and defensive back, All District basketball and football honors, National Honor Society treasurer, Student Body vice president, and multiple scholarships including Jostens and BYU full tuition. Brian will study electrical engineering at BYU. Erwin Lee Richardson son of Charles and Eileen Richardson is Salutatorian. He was an Eagle Scout for four years, plans to attend BYU as an honors computer science student, and will join the Air ROTC program with anticipated service after graduation.

Tenants Plan Neighborhood Watch at Pyramid Village

At a tenants meeting in Pyramid Village residents approved forming a Neighborhood Watch. The June 11 organizational meeting will include four board members Chris Musquiz Robert Borrego Anthony Mora and Esperanza McDonald with Director Peggy Tavizon and Deputy Becky Diaz leading. Leases promise termination for drug alcohol or co habitation violations and loud music citations. Speeding on local streets concerns staff and residents with talks of speed bumps and possible council action.

Business Luncheon Planned Friday for Local Attendees

A Friday luncheon for business people is scheduled for May 25 at 12:00 noon at the Holday restaurant. The event invites all area professionals to attend and network.

Lands Conference Draws 250 at Reserve High School

Two hundred fifty people crowded Reserve High School gymnasium for the National Federal Lands Conference. The event, organized by the Catron County Land Use Alliance with the Catron County Extension Office, examined federal land use directions and Southwest issues. Attendees from Hidalgo County included county commissioners and local officials.

Railroad Days Ready for a Weekend of Train Fun

Marsha Hill of the Chamber reports Albuquerque Model Train Club will display at Short Park and Lordsburg venues for Railroad Days. Events start with a Dutch treat Railroader’s Breakfast from 7 to 9 AM at the American Restaurant, with 300 invitations issued. Contests in spike driving, tie plate toss, baggage cart relay, tie carrying and fireman’s polo offer cash prizes, plus a horseshoe contest by the Lordsburg Optimist Club. A Saturday night dance is planned, and entrants can get forms from the Chamber. Tours of Shakespeare and Steins ghost towns are also offered, drawing inquiries from Texas, Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico. The Lordsburg Hidalgo County sponsorship backs the two-day festivity.

Lordsburg Council Keeps Variance Denied and Discusses Pay Phone

The May 21 city council meeting denied Kipp’s sign variance request. Discussions covered a potential pay phone near the office, Ledger's Tax budget items, Shakespeare funding, and lodger’s tax committee disputes. Pool staff recommendations were approved with set pay rates, and resolution 90-5 was amended to add $55,000 in general fund revenues.
