Becht Receives UNM Scholarship After High School Honors

Miss Virginia Becht of Lordsburg earns a 50 dollar per semester scholarship from the University of New Mexico for four years. The award reflects her four years of strong scholastic standing and statewide junior tests. She must maintain a B average for the first semester and a B average in subsequent semesters. Becht led F H A as parliamentarian, served as president, contributed to the school press, and was active in extracurriculars.

Elks Club Dance Set For May 26 At Local Lodge

The Elks club will host a dance for members and guests on Saturday night May 26 in the recreation room. Music by the new Cowboy Band starts at 9 00 p m. Members are urged to attend and bring guests.

New High School Building Under Construction

The new high school in Silver City is under construction with Frank Tatsch as contractor. The modern design by Schaefer and Merreil includes eight classrooms and multiple departments, totaling 32,600 square feet at a cost of $450,024.87.

Rifle Range Opens Sunday at Lordsburg

The Lordsburg rifle range opens Sunday May 27 at 9 a m. The facility includes three target ranges and four M 1 rifles with ammunition for shooters. Members and interested parties are urged to attend for practice and qualification scores.

Rulings on Beef Prices Announced by Co A M Com

The Hidalgo County Agricultural Mobilization Committee of the United States Department of Agriculture announced ceiling price rules for beef. CPR 23 sets live cattle price baselines per hundredweight with rollbacks after July 30 and October 1. CPR 24 fixes prime carcass beef at Chicago at 57 dollars per hundredweight, with Aug 1 rollback to 54.30. CPR 25 establishes a dollar cent ceiling for beef sold at retail with later rollbacks.

Lordsburg Beats Central 10–7 In Sunday Baseball

Lordsburg defeated Central 10 to 7 on the local diamond Sunday. Central tallied three runs in each of the first two innings and one in the seventh, while Lordsburg scored across the first eight innings, finishing with ten runs, ten hits, and ten errors for Central had seven runs, five hits and eight errors by unofficial count.

Woman's Club Holds Annual May Breakfast in Hidalgo Hotel

The Women’s Club met Monday May 21 at 10:00 a m in the Hidalgo Hotel lounge for a May breakfast with hostesses Mrs Freeman McWhorter Mrs Homer Brooks and Mrs Sherwood Culberson. Toastmistress was Mrs C C Fuller and Mrs B M Chase gave thanks. About 40 members attended as the nominating committee led by Mrs Co B Austin Mrs Marshall Fuller and Mrs Emma J Scofield presented the 1951 52 slate including Berle Kerr president Freeman McWhorter vice president Sherwood Culberson corres sec Marshall Fuller rec sec Alan Koff treasurer and J A Foster parliamentarian all elected unanimously. Installation is planned for September.

Hospital Equipment Fund Nears Target as Donations Slow

The Hospital Equipment Fund stands near six thousand five hundred dollars with about three thousand five hundred more needed to reach twelve thousand. County residents are urged to donate soon as the drive may close. this week contributors include Ritter-Walker Co. and B. C. Wood, Ramon Sanchez, Mrs. Helen Corranice, and O. M. Jones.
