Miller Gives Blocking Machine To High School

Miller a local booster presented the athletic department with a blocking machine costing 195 dollars. The unit aims to build form and muscle for football players through tackling work and drills akin to live opponent practice. Coach Kenneth Pharr says the device will strengthen the squad for the upcoming fall season with practice set to begin in late August.

Summer School and Recreational Program Underway

The summer program proceeds with multiple groups starting on different dates as teachers attend summer school. Mr Probert leads a driving course running 9 30 to 11 30 and supervises gym classes. Mrs Blake grades 3 8 at Central and Mrs Russ grades 1 2. Miss Glaze teaches handicrafts at Wilson beginning June 4.

Cliffords Move to New Home on Tenth Street

Mr and Mrs Ralph Clifford and children have moved into a new pumice block residence off Tenth Street opposite the Legion Hall. The front porch is guarded with iron. the living room forms an L with the dining area and features dark green decor, a large picture window and white marquisette curtains. Bedrooms use blue and pink tones with white woodwork and curtains, plus hardwood floors built in closets a utility room and overhead air conditioning.

VEW Flags 60 Veteran Graves On Memorial Day

Bataan Post 3099 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars placed flags on 60 graves of Spanish American War World War I and II veterans in Mountain View and Shakespeare cemeteries. Commander Rudy Chavez led the effort with help from Past Commanders Hawkins and Kinkema. Some graves lack markers and the VFW will assist relatives to obtain markers with name rank and serial number. The VFW and Auxiliary thank the public for support during the Buddy Poppy sale held Saturday.

Indians Continue Winning. Lordsburg Defeat San Simon 14

The Lordsburg Indians beat San Simon 14 to 1 on the local diamond, extending a three game winning streak. Lordsburg totaled 18 hits to San Simon's 12, with twelve errors charged to both sides. Batteries: Lordsburg Galvan and Corre. San Simon Flores and Collins Gale.

Frederick Ewing Set to Graduate From New Mexico A and M College

Frederick Ewing of Lordsburg will be among 189 graduates from New Mexico A and M College on June 4. Governor Edwin L. Mechem, a former student, will deliver the commencement address. Ewing earns a B S in agriculture.

PMA and SCS Consolidate Offices in Heather Building

The Hidalgo County Production Marketing Association and the County Soil Conservation Service merge offices in the Heather building on 3rd Street to pool duties for water conservation soil erosion control and agricultural guidance. Leaders and district engineers from Silver City coordinate with state specialists. the merger, ordered by the State Department of Agriculture, aims to boost farmer aid and efficiency.

Train Derailment Delays Mail Train

A one car derailment on the east bound perishable cargo train occurred about 40 miles east of town at 8 a.m. Wednesday, tying up Southern Pacific traffic for about six hours. The west bound mail train reaching Lordsburg around 3 p.m. from an 8:15 a.m. schedule had no cargo damage. Railroad officials are investigating the cause.

Piano Recital by B Sharp Music Club at High School

The B Sharp Music Club presented piano recitals Friday and Saturday evenings in the high school auditorium. Mrs. Claude C. Fuller awarded prizes to Carmen Delgado Ida Saucedo Ila Faye Gordon Mary Flickinger and Robbie Harwood for foundation work. Jan Louise Hill, guest danseuse, performed each night.
