Medicine Shoppe Opens in Lordsburg with Community Events

Lordsburg hosts the formal opening of Medicines Shoppe with Chris and Pam Sanders entourage present. Michael Galluzzo from St. Louis outlines community benefits including health screening and senior, group, and pre-school benefits. A blood pressure clinic is scheduled for June 6 at 10:00 AM and the grand opening sale runs through Saturday.

Work On Playas Road Continues

Hidalgo County officials say blade work is underway on Playas Road led by County Commissioner Kiki Chaires. County Manager Tom Anderson notes the state will advertise for more work in June or July. The road remains unofficially closed and travelers are urged not to use it until officially opened by state or county authorities.

Reception Set For Dr Scott Childress in Playas

The Animal' Board of Education and Administration will host a reception for Superintendent Dr Scott Childress and his family. The event begins at 4:00 p.m. at the school Administration Office and continues at 6:00 p.m. at Mr Bill Champion's residence in Playas. Area residents, patrons and parents are invited to meet the Childress family.

Lordsburg hosts Railroad Days Saturday and Sunday at Short Park with events from a Dutch treat Railroader's Breakfast to contests at 10 AM 12 PM 1 PM and 2 PM including spike driving horseshoes tie plate toss and water polo. Lordsburg High School Girls Selected for State Delegates

Lordsburg High School announced Marygrace Castro and Kim Morris as delegates to New Mexico Girl State to be held June 9 to 15, 1991 at the New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell. Alternates named were Katrina Erikson and Alanna Frazier.

Seven Juveniles And 24 Minors Arrested After Graduation

Seven juveniles and 24 minors were arrested and charged with possession and consuming alcohol after graduation exercises near Virden. All offenders were taken to Hidalgo County Jail, bonded out after appearing before Magistrate Judge Ed Cramer, and fined 100 dollars plus 20 dollars court costs and a 10 dollar correctional fee. Offenders hailed from Duncan, Virden, Playas, Safford, Clifton, and Lordsburg. Sheriff Hall said patrols would continue in Lordsburg and Animas during upcoming graduations.

Santos Marquez Services Held Here Thursday

Santos Arana Marquez, 65, former Lordsburg resident, died Saturday in Whittier, California. Visitation was Wednesday from 4 to 6 PM at Baca's Heather Funeral Chapel. Prayer service Wednesday at 7 PM at St Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Joseph Zagarri officiating. Funeral Liturgy Thursday at 10 AM at St. Joseph's Church. Interment in Shakespeare Cemetery. Hidalgo County Commissioners convene a budget workshop tonight in the commission chambers at the Hidalgo County Courthouse starting at 6 00 PM. The session may cover additional topics beyond the scheduled agenda.
