Clarissa Grainger is the class of 1991 valedictorian at Animas High School with a 4.0 GPA and NHS membership for three years. Co salutatorians are William Swift and Tanya Schwickerath, both seniors with near 4.0 GPAs and multiple honors including Who's Who, National Honor Society and leadership in student government and clubs.

Public Hearing Set on Hidalgo County Landfill Moratorium Extension

Hidalgo County Commissioners schedule a public hearing on an ordinance to extend the landfill moratorium. The June 11 5 00 PM session in the Commission Chambers at the Hidalgo County Courthouse seeks public input. Copies are available from the County Manager or County Clerk.

Grand Jury Ordered in New Mexico Perjury Inquiry

District Judge V. Lee Vesely orders a grand jury to probe alleged perjury by Thomas Tomato Flores and possible corruption by Sixth Judicial District Attorney Michael Lewis and Mila Harwood. The panel will meet July 23, 1991, with the Attorney General urged to designate a prosecutor and DA staff excluded unless summoned as witnesses.

Lordsburg Pool Likely To Stay Closed This Summer

City Hall spokesman says Lordsburg Municipal Swimming Pool will probably not open this summer. A health consultant from Albuquerque and a State Department inspector will visit this week to review the facility. A $50 000 grant for repairs was denied, partly due to park upkeep violations. City Clerk Irene Galvan notes prior grants for parks and urges park users to keep areas clean. Mayor Pro-Tem Pansy McDonald emphasizes public cooperation.
