Greene Leases Theatre In Lordsburg

Larry Greene of Bakersfield North Carolina has leased the Coronado Twin Theatre from Warren Gavin. Greene with 17 years in theatre and former Famous Players manager in Toronto plans to spruce up the venue, open both screens, and bring quality films. Patrons can check the Liberal weekly for showings.

Zoning ordinance dropped by Hidalgo County officials

At a special Hidalgo County Commissioners meeting on Tuesday the zoning ordinance drafted over two years was dropped in favor of pursuing a specific landfill ordinance. Commissioner Burgess touted the county land use plan and state landfill laws to justify the move while residents debated the simpler approach. A show of hands favored scrapping the ordinance and advertising for a landfill rule. Maura Rice abstained. June Beef Month proclamation was also presented.

Lordsburg Airport Master Plan Be Developed by Armstrong Consultants

Lordsburg City Council on May 14 approved developing an airport master plan by Armstrong Consultants of Grand Junction Colorado. The project will include improvements without expansion and is slated to cost between 550000 and 600000 after earlier pre-application approval of about 1700000. Ryan Pritchette and Dean McMath of Armstrong Consultants provided the figures.

Notorious Old Miner to entertain RR Days breakfast

Railroad Days breakfast May 25 at the American Restaurant features Larry Areindale "The Notorious Old Miner" entertaining guests. He tours as poet storyteller and composer and is an honorary 1.0.0.B. member. Admission is $6.75 all you can eat, and Judy Clifton or the Chamber provide details. Lordsburg Hidalgo Seniors 10th annual trail ride Saturday

The Lordsburg Hidalgo County Senior Citizens host the 10th annual 20 mile trail ride Saturday starting between 9:00 and 10:00 AM at KP Picnic grounds. Adult riders pay 25 dollars and youth 12 and under pay 10, with mid-ride and end lunches provided. Proceeds fund Hidalgo County senior services. call 542-9414 for details.

Four Juveniles Charged in Quail Ridge Model Home Vandalism

Lordsburg Chief John McDonald said four juveniles were charged for vandalizing the Quail Ridge model home across from their plant. They were apprehended Thursday, July 9, and all have been referred to the Juvenile Probation Officer.

Lordsburg High names top seniors Roasa Louie and Palmarin Castro

Roasa Louie is valedictorian with a 4.07 GPA and extensive honors at Lordsburg High School, including NHS, journalism, band, and Spanish and English awards. Palmarin Castro is salutatorian with a 4.01 GPA, NHS member, athletic involvement, and science awards. Both plan further study, Louie at UNM in journalism with a NM Scholars grant and Presidential Scholarship, Castro undecided between UNM Tech and NMSU pursuing electrical engineering.

Jerry Joy To Address Lordsburg High School Graduates

Western New Mexico University administrator Jerry Joy will headline the seventy fourth Commencement at Lordsburg High School. Joy, WNMU vice president for student affairs and institutional advancement, is a Nebraska native with degrees from Peru State College and Northwest Missouri State University. He began teaching in 1967 and has led innovative Peru State programs and chaired the Nebraska State College Council of Deans. The 8:00 p.m. ceremony is Friday May 24 at Maverick Stadium, moved to Maverick Gym if rain.
