Lordsburg High School Graduates Honor Class of 1958

Lordsburg High School held the 1958 graduation in the school auditorium with the senior band marching to Pomp and Circumstance. Valedictorian James R gave the address as Florence Baker delivered the valedictory. Diplomas were awarded to the class of 58, with scholarships and awards presented by the faculty and local organizations.

Safety meeting at High School May 26

The Southern Pacific Company annual safety meeting will be held May 26 in the auditorium of the I building. Guest speakers Sen Misco and Supt. J. H. El Paso will introduce a color film The Lost Pic Will be shown. Door prizes and refreshments in the Economics Department.

Lordsburg Senior Boys Dinner Hosted by Lions Club

Lordsburg High School graduating boys attended a buffet dinner at the Knights of Pythias Hall hosted by the Lions Club. Dr J Cloyd Miller of New Mexico Western College spoke on planning college study, choosing Liberal Arts, and three questions for the new generation about liquor, the national budget, and world peace. About twenty Lions were present along with Coach Ralph Craig and Weslon Freeburg.

The American Legion Auxiliary To Sell Poppies Saturday

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 30 of Lordsburg plans a memorial poppy sale with a Friday collection and a house to house campaign by Junior and Senior Auxiliaries. Donations fund veteran care and hospital work, with prizes for top sellers and no set price for the poppies.

Registration for Band Classes Opens in Lordsburg High

Lordsburg School announces free summer band instruction for students in 5th to 9th grades. Registration starts Friday May 23 at 1 p.m. in the high school band room. Classes begin June 2 with schedules mailed to juniors and seniors. a vocal program may be added if enrollment allows.

Pythian Sisters Plan Memorial Service

The Pythian Sisters announce a memorial service for Mrsso B Williams to be held Monday at 8 p.m. at the Temple. Members and the public are invited and asked to arrive by 7:30 for a brief pre service meeting with families and friends welcome.

Lordsburg Highway Project To Be Aired by Highway Commission

The New Mexico Highway Commission will review the Lordsburg U S 80 project failure at its Thursday and Friday meeting. Deputy Chief Highway Engineer Don Roser said the lab and construction division are studying the collapse of a 4.5 mile stretch from east of Lordsburg through the city to a point west. Contractor Jack Adams oversaw the job and officials have not yet decided on action.

Rev Arthur Shaw Returns to Lordsburg for Third Year

The Rev Arthur Shaw and Mrs Shaw return Thursday night from Roswell where he attended the annual State Conference of the Methodist Church. They will again serve the First Methodist Church in Lordsburg beginning their third year of service here.

Lordsburg Hach School will send four juniors and three boys to Boys State from June 7 to 14 at New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell. Three girls attend Girls State June 15 to 22 at University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. The Lordsburg Elks Lodge No. 1813 degree team earned third place in the Southwestern Division Ritualistic Contest at the New Mexico state Elks convention in Albuquerque May 16 to 18. Lordsburg Chamber Leader Heads to Santa Fe Highway Meeting

Jack Morgan president of the Lordsburg Hidalgo Chamber of Commerce left Thursday morning for Santa Fe to attend a Highway Commission meeting on the Lordsburg highway project. He is expected to return Saturday.

Farmers Sign Contracts With Arizona Packer

A Lordsburg shipping point could support 4000 acres in the Animas Valley to grow lettuce for harvest in September. H. D. Roddenberry Company of Yuma will contract with area farmers, with planting in June and 65 days to maturity. Willcox Arizona and Hidalgo County are key growth areas as growers seek to fill national market gaps. Lordsburg would host packing, shipping, and processing facilities, needing financing and infrastructure to expand labor and services.
