Services Held for James Yarbrough at Heather Chapel

Funeral services for Charles Yarbrough of Animas were held at Heather Chapel with the Rev officiating. He was born November 19 1880 in Frio County came to New Mexico in 1884 and Texas in 1889. He lived in Grant and surrounding counties and died last Thursday. Survivors include wife Delia McLean and many grandchildren. Burial and arrangements by Heather Mortuary.

Homemakers College Set for New Mexico State Campus

Homemakers College returns June 2 to 5 at State College with New Mexico A M College hosting. The event invites all New Mexico homemakers regardless of residence or affiliation and offers diverse classes and a dental survey by the Public Health Department. Junior Band Concert at Animas Receives Warm Welcome

The Lordsburg junior high band performed four concerts at Animas on Wednesday. Miriam Lehman delivered a baritone horn solo with piano accompaniment by Jackie Galusha. Sponsors included Mrs. Harber Heather, Mrs. Harry Chase, Arnold Nard, and band director Rogert Brandt.

Willcox Junior Rodeo Set for May 17 18 in New Arena

The Willcox ninth annual junior rodeo will be held Saturday and Sunday May 17 and 18 in the Sheriff s Posse arena on the west side. Arizona and New Mexico junior cowboys will compete in broncs bulls steers and for the all round cowboy title. Other events include team tying ribbon roping calf roping father son team tying and barrel races. AJRA approved.

Lordsburg Junior High Music Festival at Central Gym

The Lordsburg Schools hold a music festival tonight in the Central School Gym. About 150 students from Junior Band Beginning Band 6th- Grade Glee Club Junior High Mix Chorus and Junior High Triple T will perform under instructors Mrs Tummins and Roger Brandt. Adults pay 25 cents. students and children free.

Payment Refused On Lordsburg Road

The State Highway Department refused to pay Santa Fe contractor Jack Adams Construction Co the final 91 970 for US 70 80 work through Lordsburg after it failed to meet construction requirements. Material tests now differ from those at construction time, puzzling the department and the BPA. Highway Engineer Lawrence Wilson spoke last week.

City Council Reviews Budget and Pool Plans

City Council recessed to review the current budget noting overestimated revenues and plans to balance. They hired Ferguson Engineering Co of Phoenix for services and appointed Dick Rice Jr as pool manager and lifeguard for this summer with a May 30 opening tentative. Harold Bishop was reappointed Fire Chief and Inspector of the Volunteer Fire Department.

Hidalgo County Primary Balloting Shows Vote Totals

Official canvass by the Hidalgo County Commissioners reports 1221 Democratic and 52 Republican votes cast in the primary. Results include Judge H Vearle Payne reelected 868 to 388, Hugh Pace defeating Leslie Harvell for Sheriff 616 to 532, and Albert Hill winning District 2 Commissioner 447 to GBT 447 Garland Johnson over W I Walter in District 3 659 to 459. Other races list Ada Jo Kerr 748 to 403 for County Superintendent and several statewide and county offices with near-unanimous figures.
