National Cotton Week will be marked in New Mexico from May 25 with cooperation among industry groups retailers and radio and religious organizations. Women's clubs will join in the observance highlighting cotton as the number one fiber supporting the regional economy and farm income.
City Council opened bids for eight teams uniforms with Fisher Hardware as low bidder at 774.42 dollars. Uniforms to be ready for opening date. Teams have practiced and will start league play with a scheduled season.
The Lordsburg Indians won 12 to 1 over Duncan in their second win of the season. De La Riva hit the lone homer. Next Sunday the Indians travel to Deming to play the Merchants. Leo Smith won the radio giveaway. Managers thank donors for support.
Mrs Juan Padilla died Wednesday night. Funeral arrangements are being organized. call Heather Moruary at 176-W for details.
Lordsburg residents and business people are reminded that Saturday is Armed Forces Day. Citizens are urged to display the American flag from sunrise to sunset.
The annual junior and senior prom was held Saturday night in the junior high auditorium. James Baxter and Irene Hodgins were crowned king and queen as Moonglowers provided music under Manny Valverde. The Grand March was led by Mr and Mrs Ray Saucedo with performances during intermission by Net Hallmark Mary Murray Ernes Shortyender Jeanine Badgett.
Mrs. Sam H. Gass, principal, announces the First Baptist Church Vacation Bible School will run May 27 to June 7 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. daily except Saturday. Open to all boys and girls ages 3 to 16.
Eleven teachers and employees of the Lordsburg Municipal Schools were honored at a recent awards banquet. Five year honorees included Jesse Austin Evelyn Pinkard Alfredo Curly Morales. Ten year recipients were A Banton Florence Baker Arnold Nard Wesley Freeburg and Harber Heather. The 15 year award went to Mr and Mrs R V Traylor and Mrs Jancy Bonar. Howe Ee Hi and I girls helped serve at the banquet.
Lordsburg residents form the Lordsburg TV Viewers Association to raise funds for three booster translators aimed at delivering clear snow free reception from major networks. A meeting is set for Friday at City Hall at 8 p.m. to assign districts and organize volunteers. Citizens may contribute 25 dollars to the translator fund.
National Cotton Week May 2025 promotes broader markets for cotton products. The National Cotton Council coordinates a joint effort by farmers ginners merchants and processors to boost sales and prove cotton’s value. In 1956 cotton accounted for about 33.4 percent of New Mexico farm income on 15 percent of farms with a farm value of 60.64 million dollars, generating wider economic impact nationwide.

Lordsburg announces the Ground Observer Corps training for volunteers starts Monday May 27. C R Simpkins says the observation tower nears completion with painting planned. Air Force rep Set Albert Carter says training starts ASAP to ensure enough observers for the post.
High school auditorium hosts Baccalaureate on Sunday May 19 at 4 p.m. Dr Loyed R Simmons president of Grand Canyon College will deliver the address. Rev B Dale Webb will give the invocation and Rev Arthur Shaw will give the benediction. Public invited. Program includes processional invocation singing sermon benediction recessional.
