Arizona Highway 70 Association Visits Lordsburg
The Arizona Highway 70 Association conducted a goodwill tour meeting Lordsburg residents at El Charro on May 6. The buffet luncheon, sponsored by the Lordsburg Hidalgo Chamber of Commerce, drew 62 attendees including 24 from Arizona and four from Deming, New Mexico. A welcome sign was erected on the underpass, and Lordsburg was invited to form a New Mexico Highway 70 organization.

Lordsburg Relief Society Honors First President
The Lordsburg Relief Society marked its May 5 ceremony in the Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Mabie A Lines was the first president, with Lillie May Malone as 1st counselor and Edith H. Bradberry as 2nd counselor. Fannie A. Hill served as secretary. The society organized May 5, 1925, by Elders Ervin Lynn and Elrey W. Smith. The program included a history by Ruth Barnes, a song by the Lordsburg Singing Mothers, a poem by Bishop Allen A. Hill, and a skit with Mmes. Allen A. Hill et al. A history book with photos was shown. Fannie Hill compiled it. Corsages and books were given to the first presidency ladies. Attendees included Stake President Millie Kelly and others from Safford, Virden, and Duncan. Refreshments followed for 69 attendees. Betty Joe Farnsworth currently presides, with Helen G. Richins and Maxine Jones as counselors and Fannie Hill as secretary. John Lanes was honored in the LDS Sunday School as the first superintendent when organized, and he and Mrs. Lanes now reside in Mesa.

NMSU High School Creative Contest Honors 1964 Winners
The 1964 New Mexico State University English faculty announced the honorees for the annual High School Creative Contest. David Lehman earned an honorable mention for his short story among 360 entries, a new record. Certificates of merit will go to 11 short story and nine poetry winners with published entries in the 1964 booklet distributed to state English departments and libraries.

Former Hospital Property Sold To Tucson Man
The former hospital building and real estate were sold at public auction by the county board to M. B. Rucker of Tucson.
