Mexican Desert Banquet Highlights Junior Senior Prom

The annual Junior-Senior banquet was held at the high school in a Mexican desert themed room. Yucca greasewood and red chile peppers decorated walls while a desert garden centered the tables. Attendees included 45 guests with Ruth Fisher and Marty Chase giving talks and Betty Figeuroa reading on Cinco de Mayo.

Senior Calendar Updates After Banquet Changes

With the Junior-Senior banquet canceled and the Prom gone, remaining events include Kid Day on May 12, Alumni Banquet May 13, Baccalaureate May 21, Class Night May 23, and Commencement Day Report Cards on May 24.

The Sensors of 1933 will have State Senator and local attorney Lee Brown Atwood as speaker for the graduation ceremony on Wednesday May 24 at the high school auditorium. After the Junior Senior banquet last Friday night students and teachers were guests of the Business and Professional Women at a Prom held in Central School.

Former English teacher Miss Marguerite Laissure, last employed at Lordsburg High School, married Mr Hall of Carlsbad New Mexico. She resigned in 1931 to take a post at Carlsbad High School where she has since taught.

Kid Day Today at Senior Class Walk

Senior classmates plan a playful Kid Day turning back time with kid costumes activities and a kid program to mark the end of the walk. The event centers on dressing as youngsters and enjoying nostalgic school-day fun.

Chemistry Class Visits Eye Theory Lecture and Photo Demo

Twenty five chemistry students visited H. H. Condor Jeweler and Optometrist on May eighth. Condor lectured on the chemical theory of vision and Addie Louise Conner demonstrated developing and printing photographs. Condor also spoke to the physiology class at the High School in the afternoon on the anatomy of the eye.

The annual art display features top student works from Central and Wilson schools. A short program begins at 1 30 this Friday afternoon May 12 at Central school, followed by the exhibit. The public is invited to attend.

The annual Lordsburg High School alumni banquet will be held Saturday night with attendees from across the globe. A dance will follow the banquet, reviving memories of past school days.

Square Crooks Headline Parent Teacher Play Delights Crowd

The Parent Teacher play Square Crooks starring Tom Bleauvelt Margaret Green Basil Fuller Dollie Wog stad Richard and Betty Tatsch Sam Gass Myles Cohen Harold Scofield Winnifred Lahan and Ima Fairly drew rave reviews. Supt Palm and Sam Gass led the troupe taking the show to Virden where it also received applause. Mayor Rosenstein and Mrs Puller contributed pleasing interludes with a piano solo and saxophone piece by Marquis Smith. Los Cinco Cincopaters also wowed the audience.

Ralph Smith opened the new Railroad Club to an unprecedented Saturday crowd. The home orchestra Los Cinco Cincopaters provided music for dancers as deer head decorations drew praise for being among the best in the country.

PTA Meeting Highlights Student Talent Program

Prisoners Taken To Santa Fe Penitentiary

Sheriff C A Conner transported a group of prisoners to Santa Fe penitentiary last week. Two inmates on suspended sentences faced new violations for stealing a ton and a half of coal from a Southern Pacific car. Sen and Mrs Lee Brown Atwood were weekend visitors in Silver City. They attended a gathering with dancing and music by Helen Johnson. Dainty refreshments were served. Prizes for jigsaw puzzle completion went to Gladys Gene Malone Lowell Jones Carol Conner and Bennie Cross.

The Hidalgo County shift to fourth class would save salaries totaling 3,?X09 per year but raise the per thousand tax rate to 19.55 from 15.22. Lordsburg hosts El Paso Treble Clef Singers in a W M S concert at the Methodist church next Sunday evening. Admission 25 cents to cover transportation. Puzzling Beer Tax Problem At Wc Union Meet

Women’s Christian Temperance Union held a meeting at Mrs George P Jeffus home to pose a grade school math problem about a five dollar tax on beer per barrel and two cents per pint. They urged solving the problem to show the folly of such spending. Names of pupils solving it would be placed on an honor roll read at the next union gathering.

Reforestation program names nine youths in Hidalgo County

Hidalgo County Emergency Relief Committee lists nine young men approved by the war department and training at Fort Bliss for reforestation work. With Forest ranger Scott’s help, the panel may select older men who have lived near a National Forest to establish a camp in the Coronado Forest in southern Hidalgo County amid deportations.

Banouet for Sixty Per Sons Served for $21

The Home Economics class planned prepared and served plates to sixty persons with mints as accessories. Mary Louise Noche Ruth Wallace and Goldie Wright were chosen as managers for the evening and earned credit for their efficient work. Flores Cureton Beth Ball Leta Bradberry Eula Bradberry and Vera Hillman handled supplies and tables and estimated quantities and prices accurately with total spend within a dollar. The girls feel they learned much from this experiment.
