The Home Economics Class finishes its Home Nursing segment this week and will start Child Care and Development for most of the year. They thank patrons and friends for their cooperation in making May Fete a success.
The Music Department of the Lordsburg Public Schools expresses gratitude to friends and patrons for help and cooperation in the recent Music Meet. Special thanks are given to Mr. Rosenstein Mr. Blackburn Mr. Lewis Mr. Sanchez Mrs. Ross Mrs. Palm Mrs. Fuller Mrs. Long and Mrs. Fitzpatrick as well as those who furnished cars for the trip to Silver City where the contest was held.
The Music Contest at Silver City on Saturday April 29 1933 added a trophy to the case a silver cup mounted on a stand bears the inscription N M S T C Music Meet Silver City New Mexico 1933.
Richard Tatsch led the construction of a new set used in the Parent-Teacher Association play Square Crooks. The vide and backdrop with doors and window were bought by the Brand of Education and built through Dick and the cast. The set becomes a permanent fixture, and the first person to scratch or mars the scenery is assigned to Dick.
Glen Ross Jr and Lucille Bradberry miss grades one and three due to illness. Elmo Henslee reenters grade four. boys work on a circus parade and girls begin gym next Tuesday. Kayola Wright becomes Girl Scout Scribe after Jonella Birchfield resigns.
Private James Nations of Co. C 16th Infantry First Division earned the Distinguished Service Cross for extraordinary heroism on Hill No. 272 near Fleville France October 9 1918. During an attack his squad’s others were killed or wounded he alone rushed the position captured the gun and killed four enemies. A separate report notes a banquet at State Teachers' College Silver City honoring Dr. A O Bowden.
Alfredo Moreios returns to school in Tucson after weeks away as Elesia Gonzales moves to Phoenix Arizona. Marcos Ruis joins the second grade in Steins New Mexico. Citizenship class tours Rattan Saddlery with leather carving saddles and a talk by Mr Rattan on leather making history.
The Physics Class led by instructor H. G. Ehrhardt toured the Texas-Louisiana Power Plant last week. Manager Mr. Shellberg spoke to the group and Mau rice Conner demonstrated transformer tearing. A follow-up demonstration trip was planned for this week.
Hazel Pendleton, a senior and speech class member, scored a victory by delivering a thirty minute talk that won a bet with Marquis Smith. The class thanks Hazel for stalling their speeches.
At the April 22 district convention, Mrs. G L Ross hosted an art tea with pink and yellow decor and silver candelabra. State and district officers attended along with 60 guests. musical numbers by Mrs. Claude Fuller and Nadine Causland drew praise for charm and variety.
The local American Legion post and the American Legion Auxiliary will sponsor a Memorial Day program in Lordsburg this week. Mr. and Mrs. Grover Eckert visited Tuesday evening to see Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Eckert.
Mr Happer representing the Houston Mifflin Book Company visited the school last Tuesday. Supt and Mrs R A Palm and Mr Davis attended a State Teachers College banquet in Silver City last Friday. Junior Chase recovered from a peculiar illness and is around again. About twenty four boys have joined daily football practices. Supt Palm reports six green leaves found on a tree he supervised planting this spring. Frank Stengele was absent last Monday due to illness.
The Junior Class hosts the annual banquet for the graduating seniors at the High School. After dinner, juniors seniors and faculty will attend a prom sponsored by the Business and Professional Women's Club in Central School gymnasium.

Dixie Gasoline is produced at a modern New Mexico refinery and is a 100 percent New Mexico product. Dixie Oil Products Co. handles this gasoline and a full line of oils, with capacity to meet large requirements. The obituary correction notes Rev. S. M. Mims presided at Mrs. Annie Evans funeral, not Rev. M. C. Moore as previously stated.
C H Warner longtime Lordsburg resident and former 85 mine owner headlined a Lions Club luncheon. He stated he remains a Lordsburg resident and signs hotel registers from Lordsburg New Mexico while the club’s leaders were away in El Paso for a Broadway of America convention.
Mrs. George P. Jeffuy attended a Broadway of America event in EB Paso with Lordeburg guests. She met Treble Clef members including Mrs. Gladys Wilkersom Mestrezat to discuss bringing the renowned chorus to Lordsburg, promising a strong entertainment strike if arranged.
The Broadway of America annual convention closed amid praise as El Paso hosted. Delegates from San Diego to Nashville confronted a three billion dollar annual US tourist traffic, with resolutions backing coast to coast highway completion and several officers elected, including Mackey for reelection and Rosenstein as state director.
Fire of undetermined origin destroyed the Kerrs’ home in the town’s south side. Much of the contents were saved and insurance partly covers the loss.
Las Cruces welcomed Business and Professional Women’s clubs from Lordsburg Silver City Deming and El Paso for a cordial meeting led by president Mrs Katy Hall and guest National Field Representative Mrs Richardson. Attendees reported a delightful and profitable gathering.
Jack Crawford's orchestra and his lively personality drew a huge crowd to Lordsburg for the town's biggest live dance. The new Railroad Club impressed attendees as a revelation to all.
The W. M. A. of the Baptist church gathered this week at Mrs. Alvin Bradberry’s home with Mrs. Harmon Wright, Mrs. Moore, Mrs. Pence, Mrs. Gass, Mrs. Felix Jones, and the hostess in attendance. Refreshments of cake coffee and tea were served.
Tuesday night Bridge club organized with first meeting at Mrs Geo Tyra home. Members include Mesdames Olney Clark Townsend Smith Graham Boswell Lister Martin Weldon Vinson Shoemaker and substitute Mrs Harold Scofield. Mrs Clark won high and a plate lunch followed.
The Chamber of Commerce board approves a monthly big days program starting May 27 1933. Activities include cow pony races daytime field events and a nighttime dance at the Railroad Club with an orchestra. Local stores plan special bargain days and a race track will be prepared with a race schedule featuring only cow ponies.
The Lordsburg Hidalgo Library held its regular monthly meeting May 1 with President Mrs Claude Fuller presiding. April circulation shows 1990 hooks and 181 magazines. membership cards total 239. Donations announced include Broken Hate and other titles. new books listed along with donors. Local residents visited or departed for nearby towns.
The new Railroad Club in the small building impresses visitors with its decor and fixtures. Manager Ralph Smith arranged the interior while Dee Hall presided as pilot for the B. and FP. W. Ladies, who traveled to Las Cruces on Wednesday, adding local social activity.
Fifty eight Lordsburg students traveled to Silver City for the State Music Contest hosted by New Mexico State Teachers College. Lordsburg earned the Loving Cup for most points with 55. Silver City 52. El Paso 46. Marquis Smith and other soloists and ensembles received medals and ratings as competitors from El Paso, Silver City, and Duncan, Arizona.
Ralph Smith designed two distinctive ponds in his yard a heart shaped pond housing a collection of artian tic fish highlighted by a fish named Pat Hoy and a star shaped brick pond by George Tyra Kiag. The gardens feature sheds water plants and draw many passers by admiration for improving the property appearance.
The Thursday bridge gathering included Mrs Oscar Allen and members Mesdames Roy Evans Ernest Short Rh Palm Richard Tatsch Ed Malone Jean Luckie Eddie Allen Maurice Eppstein Prank Winters with guests Geo Tyra Ronald Egan Harold Scofield. Mrs Eddie Allen won high, and refreshments of salad and ice tea were served.
The Past Matron's club of OLFS met with Mrs. J. MH. Clark at Valedon on Thursday. Mesdames Chase J. H. Clark and Ira Conner entertained jointly with a luncheon. Those present included Mesdames Gass Trimble Chas Fuller Hanner Augustine Small J. L. Wells and the hostesses.
The May Fete at the grade school auditorium Monday night drew over three hundred children, the largest attendance ever for this annual event. The auditorium glowed with decorations as participants appeared in beautiful costumes.
Jack Baldwin was operated on in El Paso on Tuesday and, according to the latest reports, is progressing nicely. H. K. Woods was visiting from Animas.
Ralph PB. Smith sponsors a Saturday night dance in the Railroad club’s new quarters. Good music will be offered and all are invited to attend for the club’s opening celebration. No admission charge.
Lordsburg baseball defeated Willcox 17 to 11 on Sunday at the local diamond. Lordsburg will host Clifton next Sunday afternoon at 2:00.
The senate approved a bill to suspend the annual $100 improvements on mining claims for the year July 1 to June 30. U S Senator Sam Bratton telegraphed the chamber of commerce. the measure moves to the house for approval and likely excludes claims where owners paid income tax.
