Lordsburg High School Spring Concert on May 11

The Lordsburg High School music department presents its annual Spring Concert on Tuesday evening at 8:00 in the high school auditorium. The Band and Girls Glee Club perform a varied program from marches to swing, with seventy two players in the finale featuring an augmented band from Central School. Tickets are available from the student committee or at the door.

Fort Bayard Gets New Lease On Life

President Truman agreed to direct that the veteran’s administration hospital at Fort Bayard in Grant County not be closed. He also planned a VA review of the 1946 board recommendation to close the facility when Albuquerque space could serve lung patients, following consultations with Senators Hatch Chavez and Agriculture Secretary Anderson.

Lordsburg city council wrapped up its session with routine business and then swore in new members Mayor C C Martin and Aldermen Dudley Robertson Leo Cohen Cassie Martinez and Ted White. Three holdovers remain Marvin Pierce H J Rolfe Fausto Noce. New appointments include H Gass C C Fuller Betty Sue Stone Lalo Chanez Jo Stanley Valentine Drysdale D Renteria Dr J H Baxter and H Vearle Payne. Leo Cohen to draft parking plan by the railroad for submission to V M Petterson.

Local Glider Club Sets New New Mexico Altitude Record

Glider pilots Dr. Karl Fife and U. S. Army Captain Alcide Santilli reached 13 600 feet above Lordsburg on a Schweitzer TG 3. The flight took off from a dry lake west of town and returned to Kuykendall Airport after an hour aloft, with observers praising the conditions and Santilli offering further expert instruction to local enthusiasts.

Rainbow Meeting Elects Officers for Next Quarter

The Lordsburg Assembly of Rainbow Girls met Tuesday evening at the Masonic building with large attendance. Officers elected for the next quarter include Worthy Advisor Patsy Gay Powell, Associate Worthy Advisor Arabella Hill, Charity Marise Coursey, Hope Peggy Turrentine, Faith Patsy Batts. Other offices to be filled by Worthy Advisor appointments. installation planned soon.

B P W Club Holds Annual Springtime Tea

The Business and Professional Women's Club hosts its annual springtime tea at the Woman's Club building on Sunday afternoon May 2. Members wore floor length gowns and officers and guests were welcomed by a decorated setting with roses, lace tea table, and floral arrangements. Mrs. Ella Brown and Mrs. Olivia Wells poured early, followed by Miss Edith Cook and Mrs. Luella Clark at the tea table. Piano selections accompanied the event.
