First Adult Driving Classes Start May 4 at City Hall

Lordsburg Lions sponsor a series of adult driving classes in New Mexico with instruction by John R Probert AAA and Dick Rice at City Hall. The program includes safety films and discussions to reduce traffic fatalities during Automobile Safety Month. Sessions begin Friday May 4 at 2:00 p.m. and run weekly, inviting all drivers and teens approaching driving age to attend.

Many Car Accidents Can Be Avoided

A Lordsburg scene on 10th and Animas Street last summer shows a near collision caused by careless driving. The El Paso salesman owner faced repair costs and work delays. a ten second error by either driver could have prevented it. The National Safety Council attributes over 90 percent of crashes to carelessness and urges learning local traffic rules.

Local officers report confusion over right of way at residential intersections. New Mexico law states the car on the right has priority if both arrive simultaneously. if the left car has entered, the right must yield. Two Free Concerts During Music Week in Lordsburg

Two free concerts are planned in Lordsburg to observe National Music Week from May 6 to 12. On May 7 and 8 at 8:00 p.m. in the high school auditorium, the events aim to develop a community spirit in music and feature representative numbers from churches teachers and organizations. The May 7 program includes classics semi classics and folk music arranged by Mrs. Claude C. Ful.

Navy Man Oscar Turrentine Jr Arrives With Buddies At Local Airport

Petty Officer First Class Oscar Turrentine Jr son of Mr and Mrs Oscar Turrentine Sr was one of five Navy men who landed at the municipal airport on Saturday morning at 11 o clock. The flight from a California naval air base was routine for required air hours. Fellow travelers included Earl Amundson aviation pilot first class co pilot Chief Fulbright aviation boatswain mate and E R K Jescle boatswain.
