ESA Observes Birthday and ESA Day Proclaimed in Hidalgo

Epsilon Sigma Alpha International marks its 62nd founding anniversary as ESA Day is proclaimed in Hidalgo County. Omega Alpha Chapter members hosted a proclamation signing by Hidalgo County Commissioners on Sunday May 5. C R Auto Parts opens Monday in the old Greyhound Bus Station, Manny Rendon and Kiki Chaires owners, operating six days a week with contact numbers 542-8878 and 542-8879. ESA charitable work includes St Jude Easter Seals Ronald McDonald House and local scholarships, with annual service hours and millions in contributions. Omega Alpha Chapter officers and members listed include Carolyn Schwickerath president and Tricia Swift vice president.

Lordsburg Little League Schedule Opens Season

The Liberal reports a complete Lordsburg Little League schedule on page nine. The season began with ceremonies Saturday and first games were played Wednesday, marking the official start of play.

Hidalgo County Railroad Days set for May weekend

Hidalgo County’s third annual Railroad Days will be held May 25 and 26 at the Special Events Center. A railroad club from Alamogordo plans a large display, and the weekend includes a railroader’s breakfast at the American Restaurant plus multiple contests and events. Booths or displays can be arranged through Joanna Lopez at the Chamber of Commerce office.

Orientation At DTMS Wednesday Orientation At DTMS Wednesday

Delta Kappa Gamma Arts and Crafts Show

The annual Delta Kappa Gamma Arts and Crafts Show will be held Thursday May 2 from 6 to 8 PM at the Civic Center. Admission is 1.00 for adults and 0.50 for students. See fine art from Lordsburg and Animas and help raise funds for a local scholarship.

Animas Hosts First Annual Spring Fling This Saturday

The Animas community hosts its first Spring Fling at the Animas Community Center with activities starting at 2:00 PM including horseshoes cowpatty bingo and a greased pig contest. A barbecue begins at 5:00 PM followed by a country dance with Hatch Brothers. proceeds benefit the community center.

Maura Rico Re-Elected Demo Chair

Maura Rico, Hidalgo County Chair, was reelected at a March 21 Democratic meeting. Joe Schatz was elected Vice Chair and Linda Harris is Secretary-Treasurer. Other chairs named include Rosalina Salinas Olivia Ramirez Alice Somoza George L Staley Jr and Jewel Richards for precincts II III V VI and VII.

Western New Mexico University will hold spring commencement on May 11 at 9 30 AM on the outdoor James Stadium in Silver City. Hidalgo County candidates include Lordsburg residents Donald A. Scott Childress Named Animas Superintendent

Dr. Scott Childress will be the new school superintendent in the Animas School District. He was selected at a special Animas Board of Education meeting after leaving Capitan where he held a similar post. A news release notes his substantial administrative experience. Childress, his wife Jacque, and daughter Stephanie will join part time in May and full time starting June.

Parade Chamber To Help With Hidalgo County Fair

Hidalgo County Extension Agent Charlie Siepel announces the 1991 Hidalgo County Fair will run August 22 to 25 with a carnival and Ranch Rodeo. A parade is planned and coordinated by the Lordsburg Hidalgo County Chamber of Commerce with Chamber Director Joanna Lopez in charge.
