The Lordsburg city election clarifies ward based alderman seats and at large candidate rules. City Attorney John A. Anderson cites attorney general opinions, registration deadline thirty days before election, and two water ballots per polling place. Voting machines may obscure ballot identity per the official view.
A Nevada plane crash this week left Wes Stoddard and four others from Lordsburg alive after a crash in the desert. Survivors include Harry Chase Jr and Rex Kipp Sr with local residents reporting flying lessons and uncertain details from local sources.
Lordsburg BPW Club held a dinner meeting at El Charro on Thursday March 10 with Rev Arthur Shaw as guest speaker. He displayed East trip photos and spoke on International Relations. Members discussed the State Convention at Alamogordo April 22 23 24 and encouraged attendance.
The annual Chamber of Commerce banquet at the Legion Hall drew 115 attendees. Marion Bell of Alamogordo urged the chamber’s role as an organization of citizens promoting community welfare. Speakers and performers included Roger Brandt and Laur a Yacama, with gifts presented to C. E. Goyette upon his 27 years with Tucson Chamber.
As part of National 4 H Week March 5 12 county 4 H clubs reviewed members and leaders. The piece notes early efforts in Animas around 1937 38 with Clive B Cruse and lists active members and leaders including Neil DeVilbiss Theda Hall Buddy Wamnel Pat Woods and Russell Walter. Democratic primary ballots will list Frank Bowman first for State Senator over Rufus Warnel and Ethel Richins over Jack Morgan for State Representative. Justice of the Peace slots show C. L. Wright W. M. McKinney and C. L. Brown. All other candidates are unopposed. Republican ballot mirrors.
Lewie Harvell suffered multiple fractures and lacerations in a thirty foot fall while repairing a shaft at the Henry Clay Mine last Friday about 11 am. He fell between the shaft and a fill. He was rushed to a hospital and is showing daily improvement. This is his second injury at the mine.
The Garden Club Exposition occurs next Friday and Saturday in the store building east of the post office. It features new wear and home gardening supplies from local firms such as Grant's Feed Store Eagle Drug The Style Shop Up-to-Date Grocery and Dry Goods Lehman's Jones Nursery Leo's Variety Johnson's Gift Shop Lordsburg Lumber and Builders Supply Bishop Lumber Co Ritter Lumber Co Southwest Supply Co Fisher's Hardware Philips' Grocery Saucedo's Food Market Hidalgo Grocery. Club members anticipate a very interesting exhibit.
Robert Swan Post No. 30 and Auxiliary of The American Legion plan the 42nd Birthday observance and honor post commanders and presidents with a potluck supper at Legion Hall on Monday night March 28. The anniversary falls March 15 but is moved due to conflicting dates. All past commanders and presidents urged to attend along with Legion and Auxiliary members.
State Representative Jack Morgan reports plans to oil surface the road to the Banner Mine. Highway officials say 1.6 miles from Main Street to Shakespeare Cemetery could be surfaced soon as a maintenance project with later completion to the mine next year.
Mrs. George Stone chairs the Easter Seal sale committees with Sherwood Culberson as treasurer and Vic Reay plus Jesse Austin handling container placement in businesses. Committee members include Ward Dale and others. funds aid handicapped adults and children with 90 percent staying in New Mexico for medical and camp programs. The Sunshine Girls lead the Lilly Day Parade on Saturday April 9 with Coffee Day in local cafes set for April 15.
The Lordsburg Womans Club selects 40 models ages 3 to matron for the Spring Style Show on April 1 at the Club Building. Narrator Mrs Frances Lowrance. music by Miss Laura Yacoma. Script by Mrs Peggy Gumprey. Door prize a three piece patio set. Refreshments overseen by Mrs a Moore.
