The Nicht iks Club hosts a St K’s dance this Saturday at the Elks Lodge. Members and guests welcome, no minors unless accompanied. Admission is $1.50 per person from 9 pm with music by the Rhythm Makers. A new committee will be appointed after April 1.
City council opened bids for a new police car with Clifton Chevrolet at 2850 dollars and Miller Chevrolet at 2750 dollars or 2600 with trade in the old car. The bid was tabled to explore higher old-car value, and the summer conversion of the baseball park was granted to LULAC.
A public safety notice from Victor Reay of Community Public Service warns children and parents to avoid kite flying near electric power lines, antennas, and highways. It lists hazards and rules such as not using metallic cord or wiring and not climbing poles to free snagged kites.
A car driven by Lola Jones struck the Dunagan Hotel causing porch and wall damage. Jones suffered minor cuts and contusions but escaped serious injury after the vehicle swerved at the Second Street intersection.
Deputy director Jack Lacy of New Mexico Development and chief of Industrial Division is the guest speaker at the anpu Chamber of Commerce banquet at the American Legion Hall Thursday March 22 at 7 30 p m. He holds journalism training, has guided chambers in La Junta Pueblo St Joseph and Amarillo, and joined New Mexico in July 1961. Gilbert Buvens says tickets are sold by chamber directors and officers and can be delivered by calling the chamber office.
The case against the City of Lordsburg on Railway Blvd. moved to post trial phase before Judge H V Payne. Both sides rested and briefs are due in one week with a decision likely later after study of testimony about public use of the street and a city culvert bridge built about twenty years ago.
The Heart Fund drive ending after starting March 3 raised 280.97. Russ Smith chaired the effort but illness moved Mrs. Elmer Jeanes to oversee. Participants include Eva Williams June Dunagan Kathryn Montague Gene Rutter Angela Martinez Petra Estrada Jack McGhee Harold Bishop Revs Cochran Strickland Homer Brooks Cecelia Gandara Sam Gass James Strickland and others from Rodeo.
Nunn Jr local attorney admitted to the New Mexico State Bar and Supreme Court proceedings starting March 1. He joins Woodbury Schaber and Nunn as partner in Woodbury Schaber and Nunn, after a year as associate. He is a University of Arkansas Law grad with ten years in Hope Arkansas practice, later moving to Lordsburg with wife Kathleen and son Remmel.
Mr and Mrs Harber J Hea ther and Susan left Monday by jet to Mayo Clinic in Rochester where Susan is undergoing observation and surgery is contemplated. As we go to press no further information is available.
Elias Joseph Wood aged 65 known as Joe died Monday morning at Mimbres Memorial Hospital Deming after illness. Born February 4 1877 in Hemphill County Texas he moved to New Mexico at 21 and worked for William H Marble then Southern Pacific before ranching at Bedrock. He was a longtime Church of Christ elder in Lordsburg and survived by wife Jennie Swan four living children Claude Rachel Ruth Naomi, one brother George and one sister Martha. Funeral held Wednesday in Heather Chapel with burial at Mountain View Cemetery.
A tax representative will be available March 20 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Lordsburg City Hall Auditorium to provide taxpayer assistance.
