The Liberal reports W. OH Small and partners will open a premier drug store next to the Hidalgo Hotel in Lordsburg. Oil Test Well in Sul Phur Spring Valley

Information from Douglas Arizona indicates parties have blocked leases and plan to drill for oil and gas in Sulphur Spring Valley five miles southwest of Florence. Twin City Oil Co. of Bisbee and Douglas, led by Nat Saunders Mo J Donohue Ro KR Rawls and J W Partner, will operate. Preparations aim for 4500 feet if needed, with expected production around 26 feet.

Virden Scout Work Active and Expands

Scout Executive Baker of Silver City visited Virden on Thursday meeting scout troops and leaders. Four first class badges were awarded and 14 boy scouts earned 50 merit badges. Six star badges were awarded with one boy becoming a star scout after earning five merit badges. J. C. Payne was chosen as new leader for twelve year olds and will organize a troop. Monthly leadership training to be conducted during his visit.

Miss Trout, famed endurance flyer, lands at Lordsburg airport en route to Kansas City. The aviatrix, with copilot Mead, holds world endurance and distance records, while planning a transcontinental race for women fliers in September.

Lordsburgs delaying oil tests shield auto caravan effort

Lordsburg delays global oil test as a caravan plans to depart San Diego March 23 heading to Florida via the Old Spanish Trail and the Pacific highway. Colonel Kad Pleteher, promoter of southwest highways, notes 12 cars will travel first leg with further pickups en route. An American highway project near Kent Texas ties into the route as repairs on an engine at Animaste await parts for a quick return to motion.

University engineering students to visit city on spring trip

Junior and senior engineering students from the University of New Mexico will undertake an eight day inspection trip in late April covering about 1 200 miles in New Mexico and Arizona. They will cook their meals sleep outdoors and visit power plants mining sites copper operations and major equipment installations in towns including Elephant Butte Santa Rita Silver City Lordsburg Douglas Bisbee El Paso Carlsbad Caverns and Artesia. About 25 students will participate with at least two faculty members. Acting Dean RB Rockwood leads the trip assistantships include two faculty members.

Luncheon Club Meets at Up-To-Date Cafe

The Luncheon Club of the Chamber of Commerce met for its weekly noonday gathering at the Up-To-Date Cafe on Tuesday with Morris, new manager of the Service Barber Shop, presiding as chairman. He gave a fine talk and members spoke on city welfare. next week the meeting moves to the Hidalgo Grill with H. H. Conder chaired.

Tourist Attempts to Steal Coat at Ownby House

A woman tourist asked to wash and prepare her toddler at the Ownby House. She accessed a room used by Judge J J Maclan, later a coat belonging to Mrs Mahan disappeared. Located in a college quarantine station area, the coat was found hidden in a feather ber in the car. The woman was arrested and fined after arraignment before Judge Marsalis.

The New Mexico Legislature wrapped a sixty day session in Santa Fe on Sunday after adjusting clocks to finish by midnight. Gov. Dillon reviews bills from the closing hours as he prepares to sign or veto. No major measures were passed in this session. A district-by-district resume will follow after interviews.

Rebels Take Juarez in Friday Fight

The rebel army of Old Mexico captured Juarez after a short fight on Friday March 8. Several shots were exchanged with some crossing the border into El Paso. About 400 federal troops remained, were deported back to Mexico, and sent toward the border crossing. Juarez authorities promised protection for Americans and urged resumed travel as the rebellion nears collapse and the war may end soon.

Workman Killed at 85 Mine Saturday

Calavaca Gaveia a workman at the four mines operated by the C. A. Company was instantly killed Saturday afternoon as workers left shifts. The mine cage lowered prematurely while he was stepping off, catching him and inflicting a fatal head injury and abdominal gash.
