Hidalgo County seeks help in pending suit against Rex Kipp

Hidalgo County District Attorney Tony White asked the Hidalgo County Board of Commissioners for outside help in the case Hidalgo County versus Rex Kipp. A continuance was granted to June 15 and 16, 1993 due to White's unfamiliarity with the matter. White requested a closed attorney client meeting for March 12 at 4:00 p.m. The suit has been ongoing since 1990. Kipp is represented by Gary Jefferies of Deming before Judge Wesley in Silver City.

Lordsburg Board to Convene Special Meeting on March 23

The Lordsburg Board of Education will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, March 23, at 6:00 PM to review the proposed Employer-Employee Relations Policy and other district policies. The session will be in the Central Administrative Office.

Services For Natalia Blake Held Here Wednesday

Natalia L. Blake died Saturday at Gila Regional Medical Center after a long life beginning in Mogollon on November 23, 1913. A Silver City resident, formerly of Lordsburg, she volunteered at the Senior Citizens Center and was a longtime parishioner of St. Joseph’s. A vigil was held Tuesday, the funeral Wednesday at St. Joseph’s, followed by burial at Shakespeare Cemetery. Surviving: daughters Gloria Sanchez, Rebecca Estrada, Rosalina Taylor. brother Manuel Lopez. five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. casket bearers listed. Interment entrusted to Baca’s Funeral Chapels of Silver City.

Lordsburg Postoffice Extends Saturday Hours

Beginning this Saturday the Lordsburg Postoffice will be open 9 00 AM to 3 00 PM on Saturdays. Postmaster Bob Sarter will stay open until 5 00 PM daily if patrons want the extra half hour. He urged outlying areas to contact him about possible home delivery. If there is enough interest arrangements may follow.

Western Bank Earns Sixteenth Straight Five-Star Rating

Western Bank of Lordsburg and Playas has earned a five star rating from Bauer Financial Reports for the quarter ended September 30, 1992. Of 11 590 reporting commercial banks 4262 or 36 8 qualified. Compared with June 30 1992 banks reporting fell by 55 while five star banks rose by 218. This marks the sixteenth consecutive quarter with a five star rating and the 14th consecutive quarter for Western Bank.

Bob Sarter Sworn In As Lordsburg Postmaster

Bob Sarter officially assumed duties as Lordsburg Postmaster on Monday afternoon at a 2 p.m. ceremony in the Lordsburg Post Office. About twenty citizens attended, including visiting postmasters, a Sheriff's Department representative, Elk Lodge members, and Sarter's friends and family. The oath matched the presidential oath. Sarter thanked onlookers and urged community involvement to improve efficiency and access.

Rockamania Gem Show Draws 50 Dealers from Across U S

The sixth annual Rockamania gem and mineral show by Lordsburg Gem and Mineral Society ran February 18 to March 10 with over 800 participants in 50 rock hunts. President Gertrude Gavin says invitations were sent nationwide and dealers juggled rock hunting with booth duties as field trips started five days before the show.

20th Anniversary National Agriculture Week

National Agriculture Week and National Agriculture Day mark the 20th anniversary from March 14 to 20 1993 celebrating the American food and agriculture system. Keith Nelson chairs the Agriculture Council of America which coordinates the observance with Deere and Company funding for Bart Forbes to paint The Faces of Agriculture. Posters will be distributed by WIFE and CowBelle as local businesses display them.
