Stephen Hill elected mayor leads Lordsburg vote landslide
In Lordsburg on Tuesday the Better Government Party swept the mayoral race as Stephen Hill captured 678 votes to 263 for incumbent Alan Koff. The four versus eight man council contest saw 456 against and 263 for the four man plan. Municipal Judge was decided with Fausto Noce Jr defeating incumbent Jesus Estrada by 459 to 424. Write-ins included Alfredo Morelos with 176 and other single votes for several candidates.

Jury finds Renteria guilty in Trail Motel burglary case

Hub Cap Thefts Lead to Hidalgo Reward Offer
Crime Stoppers seek information on hubcap thefts in Hidalgo County. Four wire spoked hubcaps stolen from a 1981 Thunderbird at Elks Lodge on February 18 and four more from a Smith Ford Car Lot on February 21, totaling about 700 dollars. Reward up to 500 dollars for tips leading to arrest and indictment.

Verna Hatch Services Held In Animas
Verna Corella Hatch of Cotton City died in Silver City on February 23. Born July 16, 1895 in Tea Missouri she married W H McMains in 1921 and later G Lynn Hatch in 1957. She taught in Animas a decade retiring in 1963 and was active in LDS and civic groups. Funeral services were held February 27 at the Animal Ward LDS Church with burial in Virden Cemetery.

County Demos To Combine Meetings
The Hidalgo County Democratic Party schedules its county convention for March 9 at 7 30 p m in the County Courthouse. State party approval allows combined precinct and ward meetings with the county gathering. Eight delegates will be chosen to attend the State Convention in Albuquerque at Albuquerque Convention Hall on March 20 and 21 starting at 1 30 p m.

Mrs Poindexter Passes Away At Fort Bayard
Fannie T Poindexter 84 died February 24 at Fort Bayard Medical Center. She moved from Texas to Silver City in 1900, married Bob Poindexter Sr in 1915, then to Lordsburg in 1937 for public service work. Survived by sons Roddy and Bill, seven grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren. Services Friday February 26 at Heather Chapel with Reverend David Snyman officiating. Burial Mt View Cemetery. Pallbearers named Charles Walters Doug Strain Wayne Baxter Jim Barris Jeff Baxter Terry Gustin.

New Council Meets County Chairman Al Parker Announces Delegates
At a Republican County Central Committee meeting Alvin Parker announced the County Convention to appoint delegates for the State Convention will be held Saturday March 6 at 11 a.m. at the County Courthouse. Three delegates will be chosen for the State Convention on March 27.
