Lordsburg Camp Smoker and Dance Energize Service Members

Soldiers at Lordsburg Internment Camp enjoyed a charity smoker with boxing bouts followed by a dance after 12 o clock. Coffee and doughnuts were provided by Sgt Robert Roach, Gpl L F Short and Cpl Joe Bowers of the 311th, marking the unit's first sponsored social event with strong enthusiasm for more ahead.

Boxing Night at Internment Camp Draws Big Crowds

Soldiers from the M. P. Companies and 311th 309th and 410th units staged a boxing and wrestling program at the camp recreation hall. Col Louis A Better oversaw, with Sgt. support. bouts featured Weatherford, Hogue, Mullen, Graf, and others, ending with a decision for Exito over Colpez in the lightweights and a lively crowd following every match.

Red Cross mobilizes chapter workload and honors workers

The Lordsburg Red Cross notes 926 hours knitted in January and February led by Lt. Margaret Burton. Key volunteers include Mrs. L. J. Balch and several others. Mrs. Smart thanks contributors and calls for more hours between 2 and 5 on Thursdays. First Sgt. Earl Leevey is now Warrant Officer and will attend school in Dallas.

Mrs. Roscoe C. Baker wife of Lt. Col Baker was surprised at a Tuesday birthday celebration in the officers club. Col Louis A. Ledbetter announced a dinner and 55 guests joined in singing and sharing cake and ice cream.

Military officers ordered to special service school in the east

Capt. C. E. Jack and Lieutenants A. H. Ellis C. H. Dater and H. C. Brinkeeter were ordered Friday to a special service school in the east. The officers left Wednesday. Lt. Margaret Burton and Mrs. O. J. Smart traveled to El Paso on Thursday, with Mrs. Smart planning rail travel to Colorado Springs to visit relatives and Lt. Burton bound for New York.

Lordsburg Hosts District Basketball Tourney With Fine Sportsmanship

Lordsburg earned widespread praise for hosting the fourth district basketball tournament Friday and Saturday. Eleven towns competed despite gas and fire rationing. Silver City won first place with Cliff second and Hurley third as trophies arrive for the winning teams.

Red Cross Sewing Club Sews 25 Blouses at Road Forks

A group of ladies, wives of Brown Brothers Construction workers at Road Forks, meet at Mrs Gray’s home to sew for the Red Cross twice weekly. James Rogers Featured in Navy Newspaper

Mrs Pard Rogers received from the San Diego naval base the official paper with a photograph of eight sailors including James Booby Rogers dressed as chorus girls. The Navy show was wildly popular and Warner Brothers directors asked the boys to perform at the studio. the production was hailed as the season’s best hit.

Last Monday the Lordsburg Hidalgo Library board met with Mrs Bethel Fuller presiding. February circulation reached 730 books and 92 magazines. KREWSON TO LEAD USO SERVICES SUNDAY

The Southern Pacific Company maintains about a hundred workers at Lordsburg with 21 in the office 42 in the roundhouse and a growing permanent staff plus transient crews tearing out old turntables and laying new tracks. Advertisements seek workers especially for weekends and even strong women. War production traffic is enormous and civilians accept wartime inconveniences as the nation speeds supplies.

Proclamation on WAAC Enlistment Quota and Training Rules

A proclamation notes 195 of the 460 quota obtained with a deadline of March 41. It states teachers or students may be deferred after enlisting in the tea nerve corps until the school year ends, and small groups of women enlisting together may train as a unit.

Red Cross Aids 150 000 Disaster Victims In 1943 Efforts

Washington reports that 150000 disaster victims in Spring Valley Wisconsin and others were aided by the American Red Cross last year. Relief included food shelter medical care clothing and epidemic precautions as officers surveyed damages and began rehabilitation.
