USO Show Delights Camp Audience With Talent

The Monday night USO show at the Internment Camp featured Cas Twid as master of ceremonies. Joyce Wellington played piano with Pfe H Reher on drums and Pvt M Simon on bass fiddle backing Lynn Bertelle’s vocals. Dag Twid and Alice Strickland danced, Arrovla Van Deusen delivered xylophone solos, drawing extended applause for a likely season success.

Methodist Church Sunday Services and War Offering

Lions and Lionsesses Host Social Evening at Woman's Club

Lions and Lionesses held a friendly evening with bridge and bingo at the Woman's Club Tuesday. A dainty luncheon was prepared by Lionesses Hudson Bryant and Bradford. President Allan Bowman led a brief meeting and a chicken dinner was served by Miss Hendricks and helpers.

Gordon Willis Visits Douglas Before Navy Radio School

Mrs Gordon Willis and Sammie joined Mr and Mrs Sam Killebrew for a brief Douglas visit to Gordon Willis who is en route to Norman Oklahoma for a radio school before a permanent station. His exam score reached 97 percent.

Episcopal visit boosts Lordsburg church services

Rev. James M. Stoney bishop of New Mexico and Rev. George Wood visited Lordsburg. A dinner for about 20 followed by a business meeting set Sunday services at 7 20 p m at the Woman's Club house with Rev Wood alternating weeks and Sgt Keyes handling other Sundays. Roy Bonar served as musician and three members were confirmed before communion. About 30 communicants are known in town.

Pvt Edwin O Day son of Mr and Mrs Maurice O Day of Duncan visited last week with his wife Louise an aircraft factory worker in California his mother and daughter Nathella Starr Mrs O Day had been visiting relatives in California for six weeks O Day recently graduated at head of his class from a government school in California He is a sheetmetal worker who received a recommendation to his new commanding officer for outstanding work He will be stationed with the air corps in Texas.

Offenders Nabbed After Vandalism Spree

Red Cross Official Here Conducts First Aid Instructor Class

Elmo Low of the American Red Cross visited Lordsburg this week to lead a class for first aid instructors. The participants have at least 90 hours in first aid work and will become qualified to teach courses after completing the program. Low serves as first aid water safety and accident prevention special field representative. Headquarters are in St. Louis.

Home on furlough for Lt Gauthier and bride

St. and Mrs. Felix Gauthier Jr of Yuma visit the lieutenant's parents in Animas and Lordsburg. Mrs. Gauthier, Ava Heuer of Sacramento, married the lieutenant a month ago and they are now stationed at the Yuma airbase.

Beautiful Life Ends in Languid Farewell for Kerr Family

Ida Franklin Kerr wife of Thomas Allen Kerr dies after brief illness at 78. Born 1866 in Floreaville Texas she moved to New Mexico with her husband three decades ago. Survived by daughter Mrs Nat Gammon and sons Earle Kerr Steven Kerr Thomas Fred George and Elmer Kerr with 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Funeral held at the Methodist Church with honors from the community and floral tributes exceeding previous records.
