John H. Kirby Buys Ellison Courts and Plans Remodel

Former Lordsburg Resident Killed in Plane Crash
Mrs. Dora Kerr learned last Thursday that her grandson Zay B. Smith of Shiprock New Mexico died in a plane crash in Chinle Arizona while on a business trip. He was husband to Geraldine Kerr daughter of Mr and Mrs Roy Kerr Washington formerly of Lordsburg and is survived by his wife and four children of Shiprock.

National Health Scholarships Offered to Hidalgo County Students
Hidalgo County students may apply for national health scholarships totaling over 500 awards. Scholarships provide 8500 a year for four years covering medicine nursing physical therapy occupational therapy and medical social work. Applications are due by April 1 with blanks from local principals or counselors or from The National Foundation Health Scholarships in New York.

Mr and Mrs Damon Dunagan spent last week visiting son Jim Radford a Rice University student in Houston Texas. Ore mill under construction near Lordsburg by GAMCO unit
An ore mill four miles east of Lordsburg is under construction by L A Goret and Valente Aguilar, associates in the Goret and Aguilar Mining Co., a subsidiary of Black Canyon Mines of Sicro. The mill will handle about 200 tons of lead ore daily trucked from the GAMCO Mine six miles south on the old Animas road.

City to buy building and hire engineering firm
Bids for a 30 by 140 foot metal vehicle storage shed were opened at a 5 p.m. meeting. Banes Co. Inc of Albuquerque had the low bid of 5389.00, with Acme Steel Co Phoenix at 6700.00 and Hunt Building Mart El Paso at 6555.00. The city plans a fenced facility on the west side of the lot between Wabash and Railway Blvd near Main St and will hire William Matotan and Associates for street repair plans at 1800 plus 40 percent of contract costs. Street openings and extensions are planned on Rand St Fifth to Second and Ownby St Tenth to Second, plus Third to Eighth Streets extended to Ownby.
