Red Cross Campaign Underway in Hidalgo County

Hidalgo County chapter of the American Red Cross reports a new drive started March first with a goal of 1620 dollars. District captains cover Lordsburg areas while the Special Gift Fund drive earlier raised 550 dollars for the Junior Woman's Club. Lordsburg Mavericks Take Third Place in Silver City Tourney

Lordsburg Mavericks win 3 to 48 over Cloudcroft in the 4-B tournament at Silver City. They led 19 to 1 early and stayed ahead for the win as Coach Smith used second-string players after the first period. Cloudcroft struggled to find good shots as Mavericks dominated on both boards.

The Lordsburg Woman's Club will sponsor the annual Easter Sunrise Service this year. Mrs. Wesley Freeburg is chairman and Roger Brandt and Elbert Daniels will be in charge of the arrangements. Local churches cooperate for a large turnout, especially from Rodeo Animas and Virden.

Two Fire Calls On Sunday Occupy Lordsburg Fire Dept

The Lordsburg Volunteer Fire Department responded to two Sunday incidents. A brush fire at 180 Camp and a blaze at Walter Craig’s garage on Animal Highway after gasoline fumes ignited from a hot electric heater. Firefighters contained the flames, but the garage sustained about 1000 dollars in damage and Mr Craig suffered burns to head and arm.

The new wage act raises the minimum to 1.00 per hour with time and a half after 40 hours weekly.
