Cotton Day Brings Cotton Growers and Families Together

Seventy seven cotton growers and wives registered at Elks Hall for Cotton Day in ordsburg. Mayor Ry Wesley Freeburg opened the event and a Cotton Panel discussed varieties, agronomy, defoliation, ginning and outlook. A lunch followed and about 120 attended.

United States Air Force Sergeants Concert in Deming

The official United States Air Force Band chorus the Sergeants appear in concert in Deming New Mexico on March 11 1956. The 25 voice group performs 200 selections from opera to bebop with Captain Robert L Anders directing.Presented by the Dem Lions Club at the Smith Auditorium the matinee and evening performances showcase a top flight vocal ensemble.

Proceeds Of Animas School PTA Bazaar For Scholarship Fund

The Animas School PTA plans a March 10 bazaar in the school gym to raise funds for a new scholarship aiding Animas High School graduates. Activities include home foods, cakes, a lunch counter, fish pond, white elephant booth, cake walks, and door prize drawings.

Blue And Gold Banquet At Legion Hall Celebrates 46th Scout Birthday

Cub Scout Pack held its annual Blue and Gold Banquet at the American Legion Hall on Tuesday February 21 at 7 00 PM. Vic Reay presided as master of ceremonies with Roger Brandt directing Beginner's Band scouts Travis Jackson Gordon Clifford Dewey Reay Sammy Sandlin and Arthur Malott leading the flag salute. Awards went to Jerry Felix John Gilmore and Gordon Clifford for their wolf lion and arrow points. Arthur Shaw spoke on the uniform. A living circle closed the event attended by about 100.

Mavericks Close Season With Loss To Western Colts

The Lordsburg Mavericks fell 51 to 42 to Western Colts in Friday’s game, hampered by Western’s height advantage led by Carmegnani McCoy Booth at 6 foot 2 to 6 foot 4. Saturday they beat Hot Springs 56 to 42 to finish the 1955-56 season, with Pace and Jim Williams strong on the boards.

Voters are reminded to register for the May 8 primary and April 3 city election. New Mexico residents must meet residency requirements and register at the County Clerk's Office by April 9. Lordsburg residents must be registered in the primary and live in the city one month before the election.

Contract For Street Paving Given To Albuquerque Firm

The Lordsburg street paving project was awarded to J. W. Jones Construction Co. of Albuquerque New Mexico for 426954.35 after six bids. Other bids included Brown Construction 555450.01 Longenbough and Coe 495315.30 Allison and Haney 487464.96 Skonsen 479666.35 and Wylie 495202.22. Work is to start soon per City Clerk Mr Hall.

Lost and Found Dept Seeks Owners in Liberal County

Sheriff Eb Jackson reports items found include hub caps a wheel and tires in an abandoned mine shaft near Nine Mile Hill a near new boy's bicycle in a mine shaft by the 85 mine and a GE exposure meter found on Highway 70 and 80 across from the Union Store. Keys and the meter are at the Liberal office for claiming. owners should contact the sheriff or office.

Cienega Lake Plans Stir Up Local Interest

A Tuesday night meeting at the city hall auditorium drew a large crowd as citizens voiced keen interest in developing the Cienega Lake playground. The event, organized by the Chamber of Commerce, featured officials from state agencies and local leaders including Marion Allen and Homer Pickens among speakers.
