Jordan Edward Westover Jr aged 26 died in a car crash near Collins New Mexico while driving alone His body was moved to Lordsburg for a military funeral with a flag draped casket and a firing squad tribute He served over a year as Staff Sergeant in the General Hospital Unit at St Bliss Texas Funeral services were held at Mortuary with pallbearers named Leven Wright Dun Coffee and Baker from the unit and community.
War Department informs that Charles Martin Bonner AMM 2c is missing in action in the Pacific theater. Conner, identified as the mother, receives notice of unresolved status and ongoing search efforts.
Glenn Cummings vice commander of the Department of New Mexico American Legion and Capt. A Grable established a Veteran’s Information Bureau this week. In 1776 Continental soldiers seized the Perth Amboy Governor’s Mansion housing William Franklin son of Benjamin Franklin. The bold act reflected loyalist tensions and altered the mansion’s fate as it shifted from governor’s residence to inn and later a seaside resort hotel now known as Ivesimineter.
OPA hearings in Las Vegas Santa Fe Albuquerque Gallup Las Cruces and Hot Springs suspended several New Mexico vendors for invalid coupons and overdrafts. Neal Caballo station owners faced 60 day suspensions while Longhorn ranch and Arrowhead Service Station received 30 to 60 day suspensions. Some suspensions limited to 30 days with inventory corrections. Gangale Food Market plans an appeal to the Washington commissioner.
The District Office of Price Administration advances the Inflation Control survey work into the northern half of the state next week. Mayors have proclaimed the program in each city to urge merchant and citizen cooperation.
Paul Culver, District OPA gasoline rationing specialist, reminded motorists to record their new license plate number on the outside of the gasoline ration book and on the mileage ration record. The old number should be struck out in both places, with no change needed on the ration coupons.
The notice lists red and blue ration stamps with valid through dates for meats, processed foods, sugar, home canning sugar, shoes, and gasoline. It also instructs placing the new license plate number on the ration dock and mileage record.
Mrs Harold Bishop and her son are back from a month long trip to Texas visiting Mr Bishop's parents. They arrived Sunday evening.

After an eight day illness following a stroke Felix Jones beloved pioneer citizen died at his Morenci Arizona home February 2 104. He had two terms as Hidalgo county sheriff and served as a peace officer in Morenci. Survived by widow Lola Casner Jones two sons Von B Jones and George Jones a daughter Margaret Susan Wayne two sisters and four brothers plus relatives. Funeral at Baptist Church Lordaburg with music. interment Mountainview cemetery.
Brig General William Mitchell, a sharp critic of War Department air policy, is relieved as assistant chief and reverts to colonel. He plans to press for a separate air department while continuing agitation.
Out of town relatives and friends gathered for the funeral of Felix Jones. Earle Kerr and spouse from Santa Fe joined Maurice Conner and family, Bartley McDonald and the McCauleys from Silver City, and Tom Cox of Separ attended.

Lt. Col. Philip J. Galanti of Lordsburg is part of the Engineer Aviation Battalion awarded the Meritorious Service Unit Plaque for superior duty under difficult conditions. The unit built airfield facilities, base structures, runways, barracks, recreation centers, roads, laundry plants, post exchange, and drainage, while maintaining high discipline.

Mrs. C M Williams received four long distance calls Monday night from her son Robert A Williams Seaman First Class from somewhere in the Pacific He stated he would be going elsewhere soon but did not reveal the destination The call noted he is in first class condition.
Car and truck license plates are on sale at the County Treasurer's office. The deadline is March 2. Beginning March first, a penalty of 1.00 dollars plus 15 percent will be charged for each day delinquent.
