Tragic Auto Death of Westover Jr. Fills Lordsburg

Jordan Edward Westover Jr aged 26 died in a car crash near Collins New Mexico while driving alone His body was moved to Lordsburg for a military funeral with a flag draped casket and a firing squad tribute He served over a year as Staff Sergeant in the General Hospital Unit at St Bliss Texas Funeral services were held at Mortuary with pallbearers named Leven Wright Dun Coffee and Baker from the unit and community.

Wartime OPA hearings suspend New Mexico ration handlers

OPA hearings in Las Vegas Santa Fe Albuquerque Gallup Las Cruces and Hot Springs suspended several New Mexico vendors for invalid coupons and overdrafts. Neal Caballo station owners faced 60 day suspensions while Longhorn ranch and Arrowhead Service Station received 30 to 60 day suspensions. Some suspensions limited to 30 days with inventory corrections. Gangale Food Market plans an appeal to the Washington commissioner.

Paul Culver, District OPA gasoline rationing specialist, reminded motorists to record their new license plate number on the outside of the gasoline ration book and on the mileage ration record. The old number should be struck out in both places, with no change needed on the ration coupons.

License plates on sale at County Treasurer office

Car and truck license plates are on sale at the County Treasurer's office. The deadline is March 2. Beginning March first, a penalty of 1.00 dollars plus 15 percent will be charged for each day delinquent.
