Mr and Mrs Shenwood Culberson reside on the old Rainholt ranch 16 miles northeast of Lordsburg. They greet friends here Tuesday and plan to split time between cattle ranching and hosting social events with Sheawood’s brother Victor staying with them part of the time.
The legislature completed its biannual session enacting laws with mixed results. Senator Atwood and Representative Wamel played prominent roles and have credited themselves and their district for their conduct in the deliberations.
Years of boundary quarrels between landholders William J. Crreton and Thomas Nichols culminated in Nichols shooting Cureton, who died shortly after. Nichols surrendered in Silver City, with investigations by Sheriff Mathews and District Attorney Hodges. The incident occurred amid land claims and homestead filings near Red Rock, where Cureton planned building projects and moving a home. The tragedy unsettled the region and Nichols remains held in jail in Silver City.

Stewart, long active in prohibition circles, has led the Illinois Legislature campaign and headed the Iying Squadron Foundation since its founding.
Notice to all car drivers instructs cars to move to the right and stay there until the fire truck passes. Parking is prohibited within 200 feet of fire equipment. Fire Chief Gene Montague signs the notice.
Mrs Oscar Allen entertained the Thursday Bridge Club last week with regular members and guests including Mesdames Blanche Heather R E Buvens and R A Egon. Mrs Buvens won high score and refreshments were served.
M F Bouts, Rural Rehabilitation District Supervisor, toured Hidalgo county this week. He oversees seven southern New Mexico counties including Dona Ana Luna Grant Hidalgo Catron Socorro and Sierra. The program aims to restore farmers to their prior status after drought and low mood, financed by a state corporation. Thirty applications have been approved by the local board and financing is tentatively set to begin by March first.
Studio Theatre brings First National's Flirtation Walk to Lordsburg next Sunday and Monday March 3 and 4 starring Dick Powell and Ruby Keeler. The program is a musical amid West Point pageantry and romance. A school benefit showing Wagon Wheels follows March 5 at 4:30 p.m. for three continuous showings.
Police picked up Trinidad Navarrio Monday morning on intoxication but released by Judge Marsalis. In the afternoon he was arrested for unlawful entry to commit robbery and identified by Miss Tommy Jones who lives with her mother Mrs Jones and sisters Geraldine and Mrs W W Purcell. Navarino is held in the county jail awaiting court action.
Lordsburg Lions face the strong Duncan Merchants in a Monday 7:30 game at Central Gym. The Lions seek revenge after a narrow loss in the Duncan tournament final, aiming to boost support for their El Paso Times Tournament trip. Proceeds from admission 25 cents aid travel costs. Starting for Lordsburg: Chase and Moses forwards Cohen center Gale and Visher guards.
A large Lions Club gathering Tuesday noon hosted Grand Lecturer George J. Machen on Masonic work. Jeftus presided in for Alston, Miller reported the Lions basketball tournament setup, and the arsa team prepares to play in the El Paso Times tournament in March.

Donald White a 10 year old from Lordsburg receives a $500 check from Household Magazine Topeka Kansas for sixth place in a national Name the Automobile Club and subscription contest. He is in the fourth grade at Lordsburg grammar school.
Grand Lecturer George L. Machen spent the week in Lordsburg giving the local Masonic Lodge a thorough review and instruction in conferring ranks. He succeeds John J. Kelly, the former long time head officer who recently passed away.
Industrial giants John W. Blodgett of Grand Rapids and J. E. Danaher of Detroit stayed at the Hidalgo hotel Tuesday night. They discussed business in the lumber sector and will travel to Pasadena to spend weeks with Frank Kellogg and other national celebrities at the Huntington Hotel.
Silver City Feb 27 The state senate approved Gov Clyde Tingley appointments to the board of regents of the State Teachers college four year terms. Named were Mrs Alice Huff Ira L Wright Silver City Dominic Rollie Gallup C G Sage and Mrs Marian Portwood Deming.
Mr and Mrs Harry Rosenstein returned home from a visit in Los Angeles. Mr Rosenstein's father Max Rosenstein accompanied them for the visit and is staying here.
Ed Clark Neil Burke and Raymond Hormacher escaped a three or four spin collision with a truck near Lordsburg after a Deming basketball game. All three were thrown clear from the car with no serious injuries, while others riding nearby note a fatal possibility in the rumble seat plan.
Fred F E Goldsmith head of New York City municipal court and Louis B Weiss a major sporting goods chain executive toured Lordsburg and Gold Gulch. They met Dr W F Garner and Otto Forster, viewed operations, and pledged interest in Sunset Gold Inc while praising New Mexico sunshine and mining prospects.
Mrs George Trimble hosted the N. and T. club Tuesday afternoon with members present including Mesdames J. E. Allen SF. Allen Chas. Fuller A. L. Green G. P. Jeffus E. S. Lewis R. A. Palm W. H. Small H. L. Scofield and guests Mesdames Clyde Baker Inez Bodwell A potato salad course toasted sandwiches cookies and coffee were served.
District Supervisor Clyde D. Baker is promoted and moves to Santa Fe to lead a larger field. Van Clark becomes acting head of the district covering Deming Ft. Bayard Mountain Camp tanning factory and relief work. Fritz Allen named assistant director. W. J. Smith replaces George Nixon as purchasing agent. Thomas Neyland is chief clerk at the Lordsburg office.
Mrs. W C Mearns hosted a Colonial Tea last Friday with a darkened drawing room lit by candles. The event featured antique curios including a Rose of Sharon quilt about a century old and a 1800 Ulster County Gazette funeral notice for George Washington, with numerous guests in period costumes and a minuet danced under Miss Ada Coyner’s direction.
After weeks of expert scouting around Lordsburg a test well operation has been decided. Details remain to be finalized but prospects are promising for an announcement next week.
John Morrow of Raton, three term congressman from New Mexico, died Monday in a Santa Fe hospital after a several week illness. He was a pioneer of the state and survived by his widow and several children.
Lordsburg hosted an invitational basketball tournament on Saturday March 16 featuring eight teams from Lordsburg Duncan Silver City Virden Deming Willcox Bowie Machita and the Lordsburg Lions. The Duncan Merchants who won last weekend’s invitational will seek another trophy. games require three wins to claim the title. Trophies donated by local businesses and individuals include a large silver loving cup and gold silver bronze basketballs for top finishers. Admission ranges from 7 cents to 35 cents depending on ticket type.
Lordsburg Lions Club issues a challenge to the Knights of Pythias for a basketball game during the week of March 11 to 16. Proceeds support a town team trip to the Southwestern Tournament in Flagstaff. Town players barred from both squads. response due by March 4.

U S Navy officers H Dickson chief aviation pilot and A Fever chief boatswain landed at Lordsburg airport on Thursday afternoon. The LOENING amphibians with wasp motors accompanied their arrival.
Silver City February 27 Special to the Liberal State Teachers College at Silver City is now fully accredited following the American Association of Teachers Colleges meeting in Atlantic City. The accreditation places the school on equal footing with other colleges. President Hoyt Graham attended the eastern gathering.
Hail McKenney pilot J W Mc Kenzie cartographic engineer and Warren T Jameson mechanic of the Coast and Geodetic Survey are at Lordsburg airport to begin sectional airway maps showing geography boundaries and notable features. Funded by the Department of Commerce via the Public Works Administration. A detailed account will be published next week.
Governor Clyde Tingley has retained Lo Puddy Brown on the State Barber Board, naming him president. New members include Thomas M. Salman of Albuquerque and Bernabe Romero of Santa Fe.
Governor Tingley signs a health bill designating ten state districts. County health officers become assistants to district officers. Hidalgo County lies in District 7 with Granit and Luna included.
Junior Department of the M E Sunday school hosted a farewell gathering in the church undercroft for Sara Mae and Mack Baker as they prepare to move to Santa Fe. Mrs. Mearns and Mrs. Olney led the event with games, gifts given, and refreshments served.
Mr and Mrs S M Chase returned Wednesday from Roswell to be with their son Junior who underwent an operation last week.
