Rodeo in Rodeo New Mexico marks its thirteenth annual Fourth of July festival with a parade along US 80 at 6 PM, barbecue, fireworks, a dance, and awards for parade entrants. Delian and Rene Blondeau of Portal, Arizona, are named Grand Marshalls for 1991.
Lordsburg Optimist Club hosts its annual silhouette shoot on Saturday June 29 inviting youths aged eight to eighteen to compete. Open to Hidalgo County residents with strong turnout from Animas Cotton City Playas Rodeo and Virden. Nine trophies total will be awarded across age groups 8 to 11 and 12 to 18 with no entry fee and ammunition provided. Rifles will be available for those without one.
Maura Rico Hidalgo County Commissioner and Hidalgo County Democratic Chairman was appointed by Governor King to the Governor's Business Advisory Council. First meeting set for Friday June 28 at the Sheraton Old Town Albuquerque at 8 30 a m. Executive panel includes Governor King Bill Garcia and Mike Cerletti.

Bob Martin, Western Bank President and CEO, announced this week that Teri Wright has been named Assistant Cashier and officer of the bank. Born in Silver City and a Lordsburg High School graduate, she and her husband Bill, a Bedrock farmer, have two children, Lori 14 and Jim 12. Wright previously worked for Western Bank for four years.
The 1991 Miss Hidalgo County Fair Queen and Princess Contest, themed Cotton Candy Sno Cones and Fun Times at the County Fair, will select the queen and court on August 15 at 7 PM in the Lordburg School Cafetorium. Contestants range 16 to 21 for Queen and 13 to 15, 10 to 12, 6 to 9 for Princesses, with Little Miss Hidalgo from 3 to 5.
There will be no immunization clinic on July 10. A special clinic is set for July 17 followed by a regular clinic on July 24. The schedule will return to the second and fourth Wednesday morning of each month thereafter.
The Liberal will publish a day early on Wednesday July 3. News items must reach the Liberal office by Monday noon and advertisements by Tuesday morning. The Liberal office will be closed July 4 for Independence Day.

Governor Bruce King appoints Saucedo to the 13 member New Mexico Border Authority created under the Border Development Act of 1919. The body coordinates cross border development, attracts industries, resolves transport issues, and can issue revenue bonds for southern border improvements.
Randy Lendhardt a licensed certified Nurse Practitioner and Physician's Assistant now practices in Lordsburg four days a week at Hidalgo County Medical Complex with hours Monday Tuesday Wednesday and Friday 8 00 AM to 4 00 PM. He will see maternity and pediatric patients weekly and commute from Deming daily working through Dr LaFon’s Deming office. He is a 1987 University of North Dakota School of Medicine graduate and a January 1990 New Mexico State University Nursing bachelor. Betty Kyser staffer joins him daily. Cindy Talavera is receptionist.
False solicitation claimed to be a district service. Commercial Newspaper Service solicits football poster ads ranging from eighty to one hundred dollars, not approved by the Animas Public Schools. Ads for football and volleyball posters will be solicited by Animas High School student organizations.
