James C Wright died at home Wednesday evening June 25 after a short illness. Born January 9 1878 in Texas he moved to Lordsburg nine years ago from Animas where he ranched. Survived by widow Ellie B Wright and daughter Mrs Herbert Young of Hatchita NM. Funeral at Heather Mortuary Friday at 1 pm with Rev David E Moore officiating. Burial at Middle Animas around 3 30 pm.

Vacation Bible School Picnic At Ball Park

One hundred nine children aged four to fourteen attended a Ball Park picnic marking the first week of the Bible School at the Baptist church. Mrs. Moore announces enrollment of 121 for the week. Commencement exercises are Sunday night at 8 o clock and all parents and friends are invited.

Mrs P M McInnis and her son Oran are visiting relatives in New Mexico. They accompanied Supt Tom Mayfield who traveled with them on his business trip to Artesia.

Jimmie LaSalle Dies in California

Friends of Mr and Mrs Jimmie LaSalle learned of his death in Oakland California where they went for a summer vacation The wire to Mr and Mrs Elbert Coursey said he died of a heart attack Friday afternoon June 20 He was a former Lordsburg resident employed by the Southern Pacific Railroad as a ticket clerk and his wife taught in local schools They had recently moved to Tucumcari New Mexico and completed a new home before the trip burial was in Oakland Sunday

Iremans Ball Huge Success at La Fiesta Club

The Fireman's Ball held Saturday night at La Fiesta Club drew the largest attendance in its history. People from Ferdsburg, Silver City, and Deming joined the event with Chiefs Wilder of Deming and Boren of Silver City among attendees.

Family Dinner Hosted by Miss Ima Fairly

Young Group Leaves for Training School at Cloudcroft

Ten young ladies and young men from the Methodist church depart Lordsburg by Monday train for the Sacramento Training School near Cloudcroft to stay until July 1. Rev. and Mrs. Paul Hively accompany them while Mrs. George Jeffus Mrs. Isaac Ven Meter and L B Robinson furnish transport for the trip.

Mrs. Belle Cailloutte Dies at 82 in Animas

Mrs. Belle Cailloutte age 82 died Monday at a local hospital after a two week illness. Born in Texas in 1865 she lived in Animas. Survived by one daughter Mrs. Bert Smith of Lordsburg and four sons Lonnie Dan Latha and Henry Cailloutte. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Heather Mortuary with Charles Fogliasso officiating. Interment followed at Middle Animes.

Bond Purchases for Hidalgo County Reported by Chairman

The Hidalgo County Savings Bonds Committee reports May purchases totaling 14 587 50 in Series E Bonds led by chairman J A Foster. Series E buys rose over April by 5 043 75 but trailed January’s high by 262 50. Investments in Series F and G reached 7 000 with gains over April. Total savings bond investments across all three series stood at 21 587 50, up 12 403 75 from April. The Bond a Month Plan continues.

Wesley Freeburg Chosen School Superintendent

Lordsburg appoints Wesley Freeburg Box 738 Taos New Mexico as superintendent of the Lordsburg schools. He has twenty years in education including sixteen as Taos Municipal School superintendent and holds a BA from New Mexico Highlands and an MA from the University of New Mexico. He arrives about July 10 and brings a record of community service and leadership.

The final summer meeting of the Woman's Society of Christian Service was held Friday afternoon at Mrs. Tom Clayton's home. Mrs. Homer Roundtree led the program with a talk on Education for Children.
