The Knights of Pythias sponsor the annual 4th of July picnic and barbeque at Wood Canyon. Dokks donate meat, Knights provide rest of food. Lunch served at one o clock to lodge members families and friends. Afternoon games entertainment and children's races with prizes.
Mrs. H. E. Scofield state president of B P W clubs of New Mexico returned from Albuquerque where she attended a regional conference June 22 to 24 involving Wyoming Arizona Colorado Nebraska and New Mexico. Principal speakers included Kay Frances Scott and Geneva McQuarters with Maude Doyle also present. The gathering featured talks on legislation programs and membership and a luncheon by the Nebraska and Wyoming delegation.
On Wednesday June 25 Moctezuma Club beat the Plumbers 31 to 23 as 54 total runs were tallied. Earlier Monday Pipe Liners defeated Veterans 15 to 11 in a close game. Showers cleared the crowd before Tuesday night’s Plumbers versus Moctezuma contest and next week’s schedule lists matches for Veterans Leo’s Plumbers and a set of preliminary games across two nights.
Mrs. Emma Muir and Mrs. Mary D. Kipp returned from Raton where they attended the Grand Assembly of the Order of Rainbow for Girls. Kipp serves on the executive board and accompanied the Worthy Grand Matron Mrs. Wallie Shape on her official visit to Mountainair. Also present was Mrs. Elsie Aspinwall, Grand Worthy Associate Matron.
Mr Bill Prine, a popular Ford dealer, has come home from the hospital last week and is improving nicely.
The Methodist Church in New Mexico hosted its annual Young People’s Assembly in the Sacramento Mountains. Ten attendees from Lordsburg Church included John Kipp Kay Jeffus Allen Johnson Marise Coursey Pat Cory Marilyn Kuykendall Arabella Hill Patsy Batts La Verne Scott Jacquelyn Turrentine. Sponsors Rev. and Mrs. Paul Hively accompanied the group.
New officers assumed duties at the Lions Club meeting Tuesday. Installed were H. Vearle Payne as President Edward M. Fisher Jr as Secretary Treasurer Herbert H. Bryant as 1st Vice President RB Rice as 2nd Vice President F G Behmlander as 3rd Vice Harry Galusha as Lion Tamer Jack Morgan as Tail Twister Co B Austin as Immediate Past President Directors include Harry Rosenstein John Bradford Alton Powell B M Kimbley. Retiring officers were C B Austin H E Scofield A A Powell H H Bryant R B Rice and Harry Galusha.
Legion news reports La Fiesta party night as Faithful wheels carry attendees to the Legion dance. Senior Money Bags Everett, finance officer, expects a large influx of coin and has reserved travel departures. Harold Sco field returns from Albuquerque after aiding a cemetery dedication for the cause.
Mrs. Joey Heard of Cloverdale was en route Tuesday night for a visit when an unspecified incident occurred. Details were not provided in the surviving text.
At a regular Legion meeting on Wednesday evening new officers for the coming year were installed. The roster includes Fausto Noce commander Cassie Martinez vice commander Damon Dunegan second vice commander Howard Phillips third vice Bobby Williams Americanization W I Scott post chaplain Andy Lucero historian Benny Everett finance officer Charley Williams sergeant at arms George Eddy adjutant and H M Brakes installing officer aided by Dr F Behmlander. No other business was conducted.
Mrs. A A Richards Mrs W F Winters and Mrs M H Brooks returned from Gallup after a three day American Legion Department of New Mexico convention. Gov Mabry Major Gen Hodges Rear Admiral Durgin Adj Gen Sage Col Peck Col Turner and Mrs Admiral Durgin spoke urging readiness and air power to defend democracy. The Child Welfare Banquet was held at the El Navajo Hotel with Mrs H W Atkins hosting remarks.
Mr and Mrs Henry Stiison hosted the Birthday Club gathering last Saturday at 405 S Shakespeare St. Honored guest was J R Poindexter Sr whose birthday anniversary prompted a supper and evening of visiting with Ellison and other local residents.

Supt and Mrs Tom Mayfield who will move to Artesia were guests of honor at an outdoor picnic supper hosted by the Wednesday Sewing Club. The setting was the yard of Mr and Mrs G P Jeffus with a pot luck meal for members and their guests. The club presented the Mayfields a silver serving tray engraved with club name and date.
Ralph E Wiesner inspector with the Civil Aeronautics Administration will be at Lordsburg Municipal Airport all day Tuesday July 1 to handle airman certificate matters. Local pilots may see him without an appointment. This is his first stop in three months and future visits are not scheduled.
Troop No. 120 of the Boy Scouts spent a two day outing at Round Mountain this week. Participants included Jack Cochran, Dick Rice, Dale Allen, Oscar Turntine, Edward Clouts and Billy Steele. Eldon Taylor provided transportation for the group led by Scout Master G. H. Dorsett.
A wedding shower Saturday night honored former Betty Kerr and Lloyd Washburn who were recently married. Hostesses were Mrs. Troy Jones and Mrs. Joe Rouse of Valley View. Eighty guests attended the event and the gift table featured many attractive items with a wedding cake centerpiece served to all.
Mrs. N. A. Gammon hosted the Wednesday Bridge Club with a one o'clock luncheon at Hidalgo Coffee Shop. Attendees included Mrs. R. E Ravens, Mrs. Frank Winters, Mrs. C. B. Austin, and Mrs. S. B. Allen, with guests Mrs. Thelma Ross and Mrs. Wm. Musgrove.
The Baptist Men’s Brotherhood Group held their monthly meeting last Monday at the ranch home of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Rouse. Twenty members and guests from Lordsburg attended. Activities included socializing and horseshoe pitching with hot dogs served.
Miss Barbara Anne Parker and Miss Mary Sue DeVilbiss with Mrs. Alvin Parker traveled to Raton New Mexico for the 14th annual Grand Assembly of the Order of Rainbow for Girls. Miss Mabel Brown Grand Chaplain joined by Mrs Rex Kipp and Mrs Emma Muir attended and all three participated. Mrs Kipp was re appointed to the State Executive Board and Miss Brown named Grand Page for the year.
Five hundred thirty two Masons gathered at the City of Rocks near Faywood Hot Springs for an outdoor meeting and barbeque. Lodges from Silver City Hurley Santa Rita Tyrone Deming Lordsburg participated with members from Texas New Mexico and Arizona. Past Grand Master of Texas John Temple Rice attended as a guest. Fifteen Lordsburg members attended.
