Cemetery Cleanup Day Draws Volunteers in Lordsburg

Knights of Pythias urge residents to join Saturday work at Mountain View Cemetery following a Tuesday start. Volunteers should bring tools and arrive as able, as crews fill sinking graves and straighten leaning headstones. Mary Mora Retires from Lordsburg School After 25 Years

Mary Mora retired June 19 after 25 years with the Lordsburg Municipal School System. She began as secretary to high school principals in 1967, served seven administrators, and plans traveling and time with grandchildren. A parade and SHRINERS event followed the retirement note amid local announcements of a separate assault charges case against Joel Ponder related to a Lordsburg High School incident.

Johnny DePorto Bound Over To District Court

Johnny DePorto aged 26 of 620 East Fourth Street was bound over for trial in District Court by Magistrate Judge Y B Morales on June 19 for charges of attempted murder attempted armed robbery and aggravated battery. The case stems from a May 30 incident at Road Forks Tavern where Nick Paulos was found with multiple head and arm wounds and hospitalized. Police say the injuries were knife inflicted and DePorto was taken into custody and jailed in Hidalgo County.

Lordsburg Fire Department Receives 1992 93 Aid

A communique from the State Fire Marshall states Lordsburg's Fire Department will get 34578 dollars for the 1992 1993 fiscal year. About 22000 dollars of the funding will go toward buying Lordsburg’s new engine one, delivered this month.

Lordsburg to receive 384 330 housing grant in NM aid package

Senator Domenici announced a HUD funded grant totaling just over 1.2 million to repair and renovate low income public housing across New Mexico. Lordsburg gets 384 330, with Espanola 549 892 and San Miguel County 281 795, under the Comprehensive Improvement Assistance Program.

Lordsburg City Clerk Receives Certified Municipal Clerk Status

Lordsburg to Raise Gross Receipts Tax to 6 1/8 Percent

City Clerk Irene Galvan announces Lordsburg’s gross receipts tax will rise from 6 percent to 6 1/8 percent starting July. The hike stems from a 1991 Legislature move taking an extra 1/8 percent from cities, with room for two 1/16 percent increases. The first increment missed due to a publication error and both increases are now set for July 1, 1992.
