Up-To-Date Stores plans extensive alterations to expand the Grocery and Dry Goods sections at railroad Avenue in Lordsburg. A new 22 by 57 foot rear addition will join with the existing building to create 108 by 57 foot ground space with a 108 by 282 foot grocery area. The front meat and frozen foods will be reorganized with two checkout counters near the entrance. Fixtures supplied by Wease and Fix of Roswell and installed under El Paso standards. Construction by Andrew local contractor.

Local Legion and School Band to Attend Legion Convention
The local American Legion and Legion Auxiliary will join the statewide convention in Silver City this week. The parade features the local unit's float and the high school band with bands from Ft Bliss Deming Hurley Silver City and New Mexico Western College. The NM department convened in Silver City 32 years ago. General sessions start Thursday at James Stadium NMW College and will be broadcast on KSIL. A child welfare banquet and dance follow the Friday parade at the Murray Hotel. Awards are handed out Saturday at 9:30 am with next year’s convention location announced. A large Lordsburg delegation is expected.

Kids Rodeo A Success And Well Attended
The first Kiddies Rodeo of the season at the fairgrounds drew strong attendance with a parade preceding the events. Winners included Calf Roping and Team Tying among 13 years and under and 14 years and over groups, with Sheriff’s Posse crediting local merchants for support. Two speeding arrests and a highway crash near Lordsburg on Highway 70 were reported, with all three violators fined and the teen driver pleading guilty to reckless driving.

Lordsburg Indians routed Fierro 94 to 15 in Hanover sweeping fifty win of the year. L Sanchez paced the attack with four hits in six at bats while Sauredo also had four of seven and P Weyler collected three hits in five chances. Polio Victim Darrow Richins Jr. Returns Home
Darrow Richins Jr. of Animas was stricken with polio Tuesday at his home and taken to Silver City Wednesday. Doctors reported the case is not serious and said home treatment with hot packs and care could continue.
