Knights of Pythias Picnic Marks July Fourth Anniversary
The Knights of Pythias Pyramid Lodge No. 23 hold an annual picnic at the K P grounds 14 miles from Lordsburg on the Silver highway. The event celebrates the order founded February 19, 1864 in Washington DC and marks their 57th anniversary with an outdoor barbecue. Members, after early afternoon departures, continue the celebration as a community tradition.

Ulric Miller Injured At Work Requires Immediate Operation
Ulric F. Miller of the Miller Chevrolet Motor Company was injured Monday while lifting heavy objects. He was taken to a doctor and advised to undergo an operation at once. Mrs. Miller drove him to Silver City to the Watts Clinic for a Tuesday appointment. full details of the injury were not yet known.

Weekend two-vehicle crashes near Lordsburg report
New Mexico State Police described two weekend crashes near Lordsburg. Glen Payne of Durban hit a cow on Highway 70 about 15 miles east of Lordsburg then sideswiped Harley Elliott of Sacramento, none injured. In a separate crash, Ben D. White of San Simon was killed when his pickup swung into a Trinidad produce truck driven by Robert Pfalmer of Trinidad on Highway 80 five miles west of Lordsburg. Pfalmer uninjured.

Fire Destroys Shed at Elmer Whipple Home on Animas St
Firefighters responded Friday afternoon to Elmer Whipple on Animas Road where a small storage shed burned rapidly before being controlled. The cause remains undetermined and loss amount is unclear due to stored items in the shed. Nearby Art Smith’s garage caught fire but only suffered broken windows and water damage.
