Robertson's Market plans a limited opening on Saturday June 26 offering free sandwiches and a price list for households. The store will be fully stocked by July 3 in a new building east of the cafe, with delivery service and modern fixtures.
Miss Kay Wright served as Grand Love and Miss Dela vy as Grand Representative Missouri at the Rainbow Grand Assembly held near Raton. Mrs Clark advised the local assembly on the executive board of the state, while a shower accompanied the event. Walter Clayton and others were mentioned in visiting notes as Mrs Dinwiddie and Kay Wright traveled to California and back.
Olive B Cruse county demonstration agent for Hidalgo Luna and surrounding counties visits, praised as the only demonstrator with three jurisdictions. She has a large network with over 700 acquaintances and plans to organize Sierra county to include 1,000 women, earning Hidalgo men’s praise as a civic figure.
Engineers in the Bureau of Public Roads state there is no universal method for low cost road building. Methods work in one location may fail elsewhere as local sands gravel topsoil and clays vary. A binder is needed to hold particles without causing mud. mixtures often use 70 80 percent hard particles with clay or other binders and may include bituminous materials or chemicals.
D P Pankey of Lordsburg, an employee of the State Highway department, was severely burned while attempting to remove his clothes from a burning trailer near Hatch Sunday morning. The oil saturated unit was destroyed as firefighters responded to the blaze.
Contractor Jack Heather is remodeling the Mission filling station opposite the post office. Upon completion the new type pumps will enhance appearance. The Johnson plumbing company handles the plumbing work.
City N M June 25 crowds are expected for the Silver City rodeo July 3 4 and 5. Organizers report entries from West New Mexico and Arizona with prize money totaling 2000 dollars including 500 for calf roping. Seating for 2500 will be available at Silver Heights as visitors plan a three day weekend of parades dancing fireworks and western entertainment.
County 4-H livestock members compete for medals in the Thomas E Wilson National Meat Animal Contest now in its eighth year. Over 200 boys have won gold watches, 28 earned trips to the National Club Congress, and $4200 in college scholarships have been awarded nationally. County champions’ records will be judged before November 1, with state winners advancing to Chicago for a trip. The top three trip winners receive $300, $200, and $100 scholarships. No fee is required. entrants must be bonafide 4-H livestock club members.

R B Wren district traffic manager of Pacific Greyhound lines Los Angeles and Edward McSherry district passenger agent at Phoenix visited over Sunday on a tour of inspection They informed a Liberal representative that sleeping cars would soon be run on the line
Tom Upshaw reported light rain south of the Grey ranch and in the Cloverdale neighborhood. He noted enough rainfall at the Cirey to cause a car to get stuck in the mud.
Richard Arlen rode a horse into town en route to the east and was listed in a Palace Theatre program as a coincidental presence during a local stop.
The F. E Club met at Mrs R. A. Crider's home on June 23. A surprise birthday for Mrs C Baas was held. Members plan an evening picnic on June 30. An earlier meeting at Mrs J H Baxter's with birthday for Mrs HE Scofield went unreported. Attendees included Mrs C R Bass, J H Baxter, R A Crider, AV Peterson, HE Scofield, RB Lundgren, Mrs A B Bowman welcomed as a new member. Children present were Tony Crider, Freddie Peterson, Dorothy Lundgren and Mark Bowman.
Last Sunday night the C E service drew twenty one attendees despite vacations. Beatrice Madero and Juanita Wellman received books for Bible reading. Next Sunday the topic is What Books Shall I Read The Summer with a Bible drill on the Book of Books. The C E reorganized under captains Juanita Wellman and Anna Beth Ewing with a new contest and seven o clock sharp start at the Church of Christ.
Port of entry officers will operate in Indian type structures built by the WPA. Joe Bursey, president of the port of entry board, said the buildings will use pueblo style architecture except the Gallup port which will be modeled after a Navajo hogan.
Chairman A. L Lynn reports the Legion dance was the best the boys had with the Hum mell orchestra. About a hundred tickets sold and merchants donated prizes. Mr Hummel asked if he should return next Saturday night and the crowd voted unanimously, promising a June 26th appearance.

Dr E C DeMoxs described an unusual hospital Sunday incident as Mrs Carrie Jones of Los Angeles reportedly registered a temperature of 1072 degrees. An ice pack was applied and she was able to proceed on her journey by Monday morning.
President Roosevelt told Congress the government cannot permanently subsidize farm borrowers while pursuing a balanced program. He attacked a House plan to cap land bank loans at 30 percent interest as costly to the Treasury and warned new taxes would be needed. The bill would extend a 3 percent rate for one year on over two billion dollars in loans, with a 4 percent rate to follow, calling the 4 percent claim unreasonable.

The House completed action on the Senate bill suspending for the current fiscal year the annual $100 assessment work required on mining claims. The bill passed the Senate last week and goes to the President for signature. Waiving of assessment work for 1997 will aid thousands of small claim holders in the West.
Mesdames AL Green and HH Scofield hosted a formal tea and shower for Mrs. Dudley Robertson at the Green home on Main Street. Guests admired spring flowers, yellow and nile green theme, a wedding cake centerpiece, and autographed receipts while Miss Bertha Scofield coordinated refreshments and gifts.
Mrs Ena Walter and her secretary Miss Louise Ball of the Public Service office left yesterday for Santa Fe with stops at Hot Springs and Albuquerque for official business. The ladies will call on Governor Tingley.

President Lew is Cates of Phelps-Dodge Corporation Vice President P G Beckett and General Manager Harrison M Lavender visited Lordsburg on Monday to inspect Clifton Morenci and other southwestern properties. They plan continued large scale operation as copper prices stay strong. Photographs of the three magnates will join Cleveland E Dodge’s in the display.
The United States Civil Service Commission announced open competitive examinations for chief of probation and parole service at $6800 a year, and supervisor of probation at $4600 a year in the Bureau of Prisons, Department of Justice. Specific education and experience are required. Information is available from the Secretary of the United States Civil Service Board of Examiners or from post offices in first or second class cities, or from the United States Civil Service Commission in Washington DC.

New legislation bars suspension of fines by justices of the peace and requires four triplicate court record books including criminal complaints warrants final orders and receipts. District Attorney Joseph W Hodges plans a county meeting to explain the changes and proper duties.
The Friendship Bunco Club entertained husbands and gentlemen friends at a lawn party at the airport Wednesday evening. Decorations with colored lights. Prizes awarded with Augenbaugh and Banders among winners. Attendees included Sgt and Mrs M Apple and several local couples.

Community Public Service Company nears completion of a fireproof steam generating plant near the old facility in Lordsburg. Construction began in December 1936, employing about sixty workers with peak staffing of thirty five. The plant features two steam turbine units, natural gas boilers, and three fuel oil tanks for backup. First run was May 20 and full operation is expected within a week to ten days. Local visitors can contact manager Donald Johnson for tours and explanations of electricity generation.

At State College on June 9 the New Mexico Park and Livestock Bureau urged forming soil conservation districts under the 1937 law. They favor one district for adjoining farm and range lands to avoid future controversy, with petitions from two thirds of landowners. The decision aims to ease district creation and will be reviewed by the Soil Conservation Committee in July.
