Playas Baptist Church plans dedication Sunday June 26 1983 at 3:00 p.m. for its new 3500 square foot building funded by a 99 year land lease with Phelps Dodge and supported by multiple Baptist churches and donors. The mission formed in October 1981 with Dan Davis A D Wilcox and Jim Dillman helping establish plans and finances.

Reynalda Munoz Acosta died Friday June 17 1983 at Sunshine Haven Nursing Home Lordsburg after moving there in 1929 from Duncan Arizona. She leaves son Robert M Barrera of Lordsburg daughter Mary B Pugh of Ronoko eight grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Rosary was Monday June 20 at Heather Chapel. Graveside service Tuesday June 21 at Shakespeare Cemetery with Father Flores officiating. Pallbearers listed with honorary pallbearers named.

The Transportation Department Traffic Safety Bureau released May and year to date fatal crash figures led by 44 May fatalities 49 deaths and 186 fatalities year to date across 160 fatal crashes. Alcohol involvement near 60 percent with seat belt use at one percent.

Lordsburg Council OKs Bond Trustee Change
A special Lordsburg council meeting approved a resolution naming J Henry Schroder Bank and Trust Co as temporary, then permanent trustee for the $90 million Pollution Control Revenue Bonds issued for Phelps Dodge. Citibank, N A had resigned as trustee. Restrictions Set For Gila Forest
Gila National Forest records show 70 days with no measurable precipitation and average winds of 12.2 mph. Fire and smoking restrictions will take effect at 8 a.m. Friday June 24 for the entire forest. Fire permits are free and required for all open or charcoal fires unless in designated picnic areas with provided pits or grills. Smoking is banned except on surfaced roads and designated picnic or campground areas with grills. Permits available at Ranger Stations or the Silver City Supervisor's Office.

Fuelwood Season To Be Started for Gila NF
Ken Scoggin Forest Supervisor says a fuelwood harvest season will start this year on the Gila National Forest. The permit duration remains unchanged, but issuance will run from May 1 to December 24. Public comment drew no adverse remarks. The season applies to small sales or free use by permit and excludes formal contracts.
