Movement to revive a Lordsburg Hidalgo County museum gains momentum as the Historical Society reactivates. The First National Bank of Lordsburg will match up to 5000 dollars for creation and operation. Caudle Appointed To School Board By Animal Board

Dale Caudle of Playas was appointed by the Animal School Board to fill the seat left by Len Judd’s resignation during a special Monday night meeting. Caudle, NM resident since 1967, works at Phelps Dodge in Animas and will serve until the 1979 district election. The board also paid the contractor and architect for the new high school.

Mine Accident Injures Red Rock Employee In New Mexico

Stanley Manges, 50, of Red Rock Flourspar Mine, was injured in a mine accident near 10 a.m. on Wednesday June 22. He was in a drop ore area about 285 feet back, buried by descending ore but rescued by co workers. Manges was taken to Silver City by ambulance with possible dislocated shoulder.

A New Mexico questionnaire of 240000 Second District residents shows 66.3 percent oppose amending the Hatch Act to allow partisan politics by federal employees. Voters reject a gasoline tax 79.1 percent and support environmental controls for energy 68.3 percent yes. Majorities oppose postal cuts, favor a balanced budget amendment, and deem too much regulation a concern, while opposing political campaign funding and voter registration proposals.

The E. J. Short & Son Inc warehouse in Lordsburg was burglarized over the weekend. More than $2,000 in new radial tires were stolen after intruders cut a fence and forced a warehouse door lock. Police investigate the professional break in.

Fatal truck crash leads to arrest in Hidalgo County

A woman from Kansas and Wilcox Arizona is jailed on multiple charges after a fatal crash on I-10 just east of Gary Interchange. A tractor trailer struck her pickup, a hitchhiker died, and a rifle and stolen plates were found. Investigators consider further charges as the case unfolds.
