Todd Bensley earned a spot at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles this summer after finishing the three day trials in the Small Boat Running event on Wednesday. He secured qualification amid a competitive field at the trials.

A special Lordsburg council session focused on executive talks with the Housing Authority produced no public outcome. Mayor Steven Hill stated no announcement was made after the session, while council approved a bid from Utility Industrial Products for a utility order and related items totaling 12,735 dollars.
Aloha Motel in Lordsburg hosts a pre-retirement traveler from Mena Arkansas who left his wallet under a mattress cover. Morning discovery by Lourdes Martinez and notification to police led to the wallet and contents being sent to Arkansas. Lynch plans to reward the finder. authorities note a similar incident in 1982 involving a South African tourist.
A truck with hazardous chemical materials caught fire about two miles east of Lordsburg. Emergency crews from the Lordsburg Sheriff's Office Fire Department and Rescue Service battled the blaze starting Friday around 3:00 am, with incidents continuing through Friday night and ending Saturday afternoon.
Minnie V. Mike Coogan of Lordsburg is among 30 newly graduated paramedics honored at commencement exercises at the University of New Mexico Emergency Medical Services Academy in Albuquerque. The graduates include residents from Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Rio Rancho, and Taos and are trained to administer advanced life support.
