Hidalgo County Vinery Advances Amid Quiet Parade of Politics
Hidalgo County embraces a growing wine industry as New Mexico Wineries advances through three phases. Gerald Rottiers and Herve Lescombes spearhead the project with 23 full time workers, 15 from Lordsburg. Construction of a $500,000 winery on Pyramid Farms lands began in spring, aiming for completion July 21. Harvest and fermentation will lead to marketing in the final phase. Continued on Page 4.

Two More Business Places Open Here in Lordsburg
Two new enterprises open in Lordsburg as Barbies New and Used Furniture and Thompson's Locksmith set up shop at 208 E Railroad Ave and 768 E Motel Drive. Barbara Bivens, daughter of Bobby and Linda Bivens, runs a furniture store with hours Monday to Friday and Saturday. Thompson, formerly of National City California, opened in late April offering lock and key services for the area.

Fourth of July activities at Short Park set all-day program
All residents and visitors are invited to celebrate Independence Day with a full schedule around Short Park on July 4. Highlights include a seven mile run at 7 a.m. with age-group trophies, 9 a.m. swimming races and free swimming after, 9 a.m. volleyball and mushball, the Little League All-Star Game at 7 p.m., and fireworks at 9:30 p.m. Fire Department oversees the fireworks area west of Short Park.
