Large crowd attends Hidalgo County roping event at Lordsburg fairgrounds
On Sunday June 12 a Hidalgo County Sheriff’s event drew a large crowd at Lordsburg fairgrounds. Contestants from Lordsburg Animas Duncan Silver City Hur ry Deming and Fort Bliss competed in three roping contests with 5 entry fee. Top prize in the first event went to Jim Brister of Lordsburg for a 14.3 second finish and 37.50, followed by Bill Freeman and Dick Richards. Second contest winner Harold Cordell’s 12.0 second run earned 37.50?. Ray Willuth and Levi Stewart placed second and third. Third contest winner Bill Freeman posted a 149 second time with Ray Willmth second and Lewis Garcia third.

Mrs Fxn Gary Land born February 19 1889 in Coneyville Kentucky died at Hidalgo County Hospital after a long illness. She married June 3 1912 traveled with her husband then United Postal Inspector, lived in Albuquerque 1933 and Lordsburg four years. She was a Baptist and Sunday School teacher. survived by two daughters and five grandchildren. Funeral arrangements at Heather Funeral Home.

Two fires caused excitement on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. An oil leak from the Southern Pacific line sparked a blaze at C Street and North Street, but caused no real damage. The Greyhound Cafe kitchen grease fire also burned briefly.

Local Residents Injured In Car Wreck East Of Bowie
Four people were critically injured in a Sunday crash about one and a half miles east of Bowie. Irene Ybarra drove the car, lost control, and it struck a bridge railing then rolled several times into a ditch. Passengers included Mrs Sabino Arredorido’s two children and four others.

Mr and Mrs Jack Morgan will attend an All Star Convention at the Hotel del Coronado in Coronado California June 24 to 28. The meeting gathers leading field representatives of the Business Men's Assurance Company of Kansas City Missouri with about 225 salesmen wives and Home Office officials.
