Dr Charles Maynard said alcohol and drug treatment is his specialty and by February 1 will be certified by the American Medical Society on Alcoholism. He plans to lead Hidalgo County Hospital’s renovation into an 18 bed unit for alcohol drug patients.
The Four Square Construction Co of Silver City won the high school home economics facilities remodel bid at 47850 dollars after a special Tuesday night session. Architects said Four Square can handle the job, with Lordsburg's Oronco Construction submitting no bid. Board also hired Dale Turrentine as a district wide custodian.
Lordsburg announces Fourth of July events including Mushball Team signups due by June 30 at City Hall, a 7 mile run, a swimming meet, and a 7 pm Mushball final plus Little League All Star game. Fireworks at Short Park followed by a California band street dance. Fresh will perform at the Elks Lodge July 6.
The Lordsburg 4-H Club completed a community project painting 12 barrels to serve as trash cans for City parks. The City thanks the club for aiding the parks and improving the community environment. Local leaders Mr. George Basabilvazo and Mr. Eddie Lopez discussed a future potluck and joint club get together to plan projects for Hidalgo County.
Animas School Board meeting on June 11 approved minutes warrants and agenda. Resignations of W F Pittman Norma Pittman David Baca Teresa Baca and Arlene Turner were accepted. Enrollment fell by 20 students risking over $55,000 in revenue. $36,961 was cut from the budget under the P L 874 fix. Insurance plans and emergency funds discussed. policy manual to be reviewed next year.
Jobita J. Montano, 80, died June 9, 1985, at Memorial General Hospital in Las Cruces. Born May 1, 1905 in Mexico, she lived in Lordsburg since 1928 and worked for a boarding service with Southern Pacific Railroad. Survived by two sons Armando Jasso and Ereneo Montano of Lordsburg, a daughter Dora Ortega of Las Cruces, 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren. a daughter Lydia Arambula preceded her in death in 1981. Evening Rosary June 12 7–9 p.m. Heather Chapel. Mass June 13 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. burial Shakespeare Cemetery.
