Hidalgo County Commission considers creating Precinct No. 7 to include Playas townsite and Windmill Estates for the Animal School Bond Election. A petition with at least 50 registered voters may be enough to meet the 42 day signature deadline, given current registration figures and upcoming smelter employment in the area.
Lordsburg voters will pay a two percent lodger's tax on hotel and motel bills starting July 1 to fund city promotion. Mayor Ted White and City Finance Agent E. M. Fisher project about thirty thousand dollars annual revenue. The measure passed unanimously with one motel owner atypically silent about the tax.
Lordsburg post office announces lock box rental increases effective July 1. Rates, based on box size, rise to 5.50 6.50 7.50 12.50 and 15.00 per half year, with double those amounts yearly. Last change was 1968 with 5.80 7.20 10.80 and 14.40.
The Animas Board of Education and the Chief of Public School Finance approved a 744,030 budget on Wednesday June 11 1975 granting teachers a minimum 14.8 percent salary increase. The schedule raises starting pay from 7400 to 8400 with the largest gains for experienced teachers. The district faced 45 percent turnover and the state budgeted 87,694 for transportation with possible additional buses. Wagaker commended the board for its preparation and focus on students.
Lordsburg welcomes the Bi Centennial Wagon Train as it travels from the west coast to Philadelphia in 1976. The group will arrive February 10 1976 with wagons from Hawaii Arizona and California and will stay two nights in Lordsburg. Local festivities include a barbecue and skits or dances before the train moves to Deming. Scrolls collected from youth saddle clubs will join a permanent Bi Centennial collection. Lordsburg officials plan a committee to coordinate events.
