John Schimmel reports Hidalgo Medical Complex near completion of a dental clinic within the hospital complex. Art Mallett states the office is about ready to open amid the Hidalgo Medical effort to expand services.
Gene Ballinger, once of Lordsburg, ordered to surrender at Grant County Jail by 4 pm Friday after a 1982 second degree murder conviction for the 1981 Warren Uecker death at Pine Cienega Ranch. He exhausted state appeals and may pursue any federal avenues.
Rosary services for Antonia Munoz who died Tuesday will be at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at 7:00 p.m. Thursday. Funeral Mass is set for Friday at 9:00 a.m. at the same church. Obituary to appear next week in the Liberal. Mrs. Munoz was 103 years old.
The June 5 City Council debated vacating Pine Street between Main and Copper for a $2.3 million motel and restaurant complex by Rex Kipp and Jim Worthan. Council approved the street closure contingent on construction starting within 8 months, with projected 55 to 75 jobs.
Authorities captured Elacilo Otero Miranda at Antelope Wells while acting on tips of a Texas fugitive. Miranda, wanted for capital murder kidnapping and theft, signed extradition waiver and was sent to Texas. A separate Interstate 10 chase ended with two men charged for possession of a stolen Colorado vehicle and fleeing arrest, while others faced drug and weapons charges.
The Lordsburg City Council, in a second special session, approved a December 18 1986 extension for industrial bonds under Ed Horton of Non Metallic Mining and Milling to build a hydrogen fluoride plant at the Gary Overpass. Horton said market conditions improved but an attorney must approve the bond. council members noted environmental concerns and Horton claimed no danger to people or the environment as production would start at 40 tons daily, rising to 80 tons in four years. The vote was 3-2 with Morelos Collins and Sanders in favor.
