Skeen Seen As Key Factor In New Mexico Gop Battle

In Inside The Capital Fred Buckies outlines Senator Skeen as a pivotal actor in New Mexico politics as Republicans and Democrats debate party rules and leadership ahead of the 1970 governor race. The piece notes Skeen's long tenure, broad support, and potential to influence or be sidelined depending on who leads the GOP and party reform measures. It also details proposed changes to the state central committee and how counties like Bernalillo Valencia Quay and Taos would gain or lose influence, with liberals threatening revolt if Bernalillo's representation is not increased. The State Democratic convention in Albuquerque is set to adopt new rules and address internal divisions ahead of the 1970 race.
