A chaotic incident near Animas Road ends with fire equipment moved into position and police fining several motorists. Citizens call for calmer enforcement while noting past tolerance of such disruptions as officials seek better traffic control and public safety measures.
Joan L. Escobar was taken into custody for breaking into A L Parker's Mobiloil warehouse on South Main and Railway Blvd. He pleaded guilty in district court and drew one to three years in the state penitentiary. Six tires and four inner tubes were recovered, with additional items found in Dunran. Lordsburg police begin universal fingerprinting for arrestees. A Texas suspect, Lawrence Johnson, was jailed for DWI. Police say a new car rake smooths tracks.
Ray Saucedo wins the Who's Who contest by clue entry drawn from El Paso entries. She receives a $22.50 check and a year’s Liberal subscription, with the right number of clues and a proper name confirmed.
Farm Bureau leaders announce Western Regional Conference to be held June 11 12 at the University of Arizona in Tucson lodging at Flamingo and Tucson Piltmore motels. Attendees may reserve with a five dollar per person deposit and an outline lists keynote addresses tours and sessions led by Louis Rots Glen Green Joseph Eley Roger Fleming Ken Ingwanson Mrs Haven Smith Paul Fannin and others.
The Hidalgo County Republicans met at the county courthouse on Saturday afternoon and chose Alvin L Parker as Chairman with Mrs Marion Altuna as Vice Chairwoman, Mrs Donald GeGe as Secretary, Sherwood Culbertson as Treasurer. George Godfrey and Par ley Jones named to central committee, She Culbertson also listed as central member. Chairman Parker reported strong attendance and enthusiasm.
Wimo's Littl Leaguers post two victories on opening night with Wirra's vic Lop ath and Racca Stick's Sporting Goods both at two wins no losses. Jes f1e6 solves a tie as the official score ends 7 to 1. Bishop Lumber tops Gene's Shell 7 to 4. Stick's defeats the Elk's 7 to 6 after four innings due to time limit. Tonight Wimp's Sales meets PS in the only scheduled game.
The New Mexico Girl's State encampment sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary begins Sunday June 14 at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. Mrs Ramon Sanchez departs early Sunday for Albuquerque with delegates from Lordsburg Mary Flickinger Sylvia Fierro and Lucy Sanchez.

Lordsburg Elks Lodge will headline Flag Day observances on June 14 with a farewell salute to the 48 star flag. Exalted Ruler Strain invites the public to join the ceremony at Bliss Club room, honoring the flag’s history and the states of New Mexico and Arizona.
The municipal pool limits entry to 75 at a time amid crowding. Swimming lessons begin Tuesday June 16 with two hourly classes for children ages 6 to 12 and separate morning blocks. Evening female classes run June 22 for three weeks at 7 to 8 20 p m with a $10 course fee.
