LH County eliminations held Friday in Hidalgo contest

Indians Lead Little League After Second Week

The Indians remain unbeaten after two weeks with three wins led by a 2 1 win over Boston and a 4 2 victory over Detroit. Boston has one win after a 11 2 win over Washington while Baltimore and the Yanks each hold one win. Upcoming games include Boston vs Baltimore and Yanks vs Indians, with other pairings scheduled.

Mrs Jeanes Elected Auxiliary President in 7th District

At a Las Cruces convention of the 7th District American Legion and Auxiliary Wendell Decker of Las Cruces was elected District Commander and Mrs Elmer Jeanes named District President. Jeanes, formerly of Lordsburg and now in Deming, has long served in the Lordsburg Auxiliary and as district president in 1954-55, and is the oldest continuous member in New Mexico. She urges Auxilians to join before the Santa Fe State Convention July 22-24 with a $5 quota incentive.

Driving privileges restored after hearing at Alamo Gordo

Dennis V. Bartlett had his driving license restored after a special hearing in Alamo Gordo following a Hidalgo General Hospital accident. His unoccupied car rolled into another causing about 50 dollars in damage. Bartlett testified he set the brake and did not know why it rolled. Russ Smith testified a defective emergency brake mechanism was found by his service department.

Guardsmen depart for six month active duty training

Seven Guardsmen from Btry C 2nd AW Bn SP 200th Arty left for six months of active duty training. Privates Arredondo Gonzales Laguna Martinez Rodriguez Sanchez Sandoval, all 1965 Lordsburg High School graduates, will train at Fort Polk Louisiana and other posts. Cadets Estrada Diaz Rodriguez Sanchez Jr to graduate as Second Lieutenants. Battery C to join Tactical Field Exercise near Deming New Mexico. Reporting time at the Armory 12 40 p.m. Saturday, convoy at 1:00 p.m. led by Captain Estrada.

Kennecott Plant Tours Reopen at Hurley Mill and Smelter

Kennecott Copper Corp resumes summer tours at the Hurley mill and smelter for visitors aged 14 and up. Guides lead groups Monday to Friday at 9:30 am for about two hours with safety gear provided. No reservations needed for regular tours, but groups can arrange times through the public relations office. tours run through August.

Legion to Elect Officers Meeting Set for June 14

The American Legion calls all members to attend the June 14 meeting at 2 00 p m to elect delegates for the State Convention in Santa Fe.
