The Womans Club held a Monday afternoon party at the clubhouse. Bridge and pokeno were played with Mrs. W. F. Winters winning high score in bridge and Mrs. N. Gammon second. Mrs. J. O. Safford won the pokeno prize and Miss Ima Fairly took the cut prize. All prizes were War Stamps.
Lordsburg Chapter No. 21, C. E. S. held its regular meeting Tuesday evening. It was preceded by a covered dish supper. Two candidates were initiated and two members affiliated. No more meetings until the second Tuesday in September.

Bond Private Louis McKiernan of Hy Det left for Chicago for a 15 day furlough. In softball 309th M P Guard beat 311th M P Guard 26 to 10.
Lt and Mrs Quillen left Tuesday evening for Paso on a business trip. They traveled by bus to carry out official duties and visit related engagements during the trip.
The Officers Wives held their regular monthly luncheon at the Officers Club on Wednesday June 9. Hostess Mrs. W P Churchill and co host Mrs A J Warren served a one o clock meal to Mesdames Fills Carp Northman Erisman Balch Taylor DeCamp Crews Safford Cater Lieutenant Burton and Lynn plus the two hostesses. Table centers featured garden flowers with yellow and red tones in a blue bowl and matching blue and red flowers in yellow vases.
Robert A Payne born September 4 1869 at Whitefield Missouri died June 6 1945 at Lordsburg New Mexico. He had lived with his son near Mimbres New Mexico for years. Heather Funeral Home scheduled for Monday with Mr Heath er as funeral director. Mrs Henry Clark delivered the sermon with Mrs S H Gass in charge of music. Interment in Mountainview cemetery.
Mr and Mrs Dee Hall and their two sons Tommie and Jack moved from Phoenix last week. Tommie underwent a successful major operation at Lordsburg Hospital and is set to return to the Arizona capital soon.
Miss Dancy Gass returns home with friend Miss Mogene Sawyer of Florence Texas on a two day visit to Mr and Mrs S K Gass in Ysleta Texas. Both women are former Mary Hardin Baylor School for Girls classmates and now teachers. Mrs Gass recovers well from a serious operation and grows stronger daily.
P D Mining Company ships 200 tons daily to a new 20 ton mill at Gila as Tyrone fluorspar holdings pass to H E McCray a mining engineer and metallurgist. He announced plans to deliver fluorspar at a high rate in the near future.
Mrs Helen Holt Fulton arrived from El Paso with her father for a birthday event at the Hotel Hidalgo where a centerpiece candle sent by Congressman Clinton P Anderson was placed on a large cake. The festivities drew guests including Mr and Mrs Gammon and Mrs Thelma Ross and E M Brickley with further events at Blas Noche’s La Fiesta and a Culberson ranch visit. Civic and military leaders sent birthday wishes from afar.
President Sherwood Culberson calls Hidalgo County Rancheros to meet at the court house next Saturday at three o clock p m to elect officers and discuss whether another rodeo is desirable this fall. All rancheros urged to attend. June 12.
Miaw Jerry Bowers bride elect of George H Haltom Jr radio technician arrived by car with Haltom's sister Marian of Alpine Texas and Mrs Bobo. Marian's daughter will arrive later on a twelve day leave. Rev H T Ray will unite the couple as telegrams from Tucumcari New Mexico confirm plans. honeymoon location not yet decided.
After completing U S Army Air Forces programs at Sioux Falls and the Air Corps control net system, Cpl Altuna receives a diploma with distinction for radio operator and mechanics. Lordsburg LHS grads bring honor to their alma mater and a promotion likely forthcoming.
The state Office of Price Administration announced simplified rationing rules for six types of industrial rubber footwear effective June 5. The plan targets workers in essential jobs with high rubber content boots and expands eligibility for rubber pacs and bootees over ten inches tall. Local boards may issue boots to miners loggers linemen construction workers oil drillers clay extractors and quarry workers with demonstrated need.
Jackie Heather has learned his son Jackie is a cadet in the Army Air Corps and is very pleased with the assignment. His father is announced as the new commander of the local American Legion.
The four year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank Hill of Shakespeare J Lou received a hundred dollar War Bond from her grandmother after already receiving four twenty five bonds. Mrs Hill presented the Chamber of Commerce with an enlarged picture of Baby J Lou holding the hundred dollar Bond.
Lordsburg Assembly No. 17 sends six members by bus to the Grand Assembly of the Rainbow for Girls in Albuquerque. Included are Dorothy McInnis Anna Beth Ewing Betty Reynolds Lois Ewing Rebecca Bray and Mary Frances Brown. Mr and Mrs Willis Lacy and Miss Briedell Lacy plan to join the group in Albuquerque. C L Brown visited Silver City on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Mrs Susan Laurina y sells four rental properties at new Main and Sixth Streets to Alex Spiro and one to Pete Lane of the Banner Ming staff. She retains the house where Don McCabe lives and her own home, planning to stay amid renovations and current rental regulations.
Robert Burch son of Mrs. Katherine Burch is home on a fifteen day furlough from Indio California. Military life sure agrees with Robert.

County Clerk Rachel Atkinson and Rev. F K Ponge traveled to an internment camp where a marriage license was issued and a ceremony performed for groom Junichi Oda and bride Maki Kobayashi of Posten Arizona. Attending were Capt Brown and Chaplain De Camps.
Two brides to be Miss Jerry Rogers of Tucumcari New Mexico and Miss Pat Roberdeau of Austin Texas were seen together at the Chamber of Commerce Thursday morning. Both will make beautiful brides.
At the Kipp home in El Paso Mrs. Elsie Kipp joins Mrs. John T. Muir for a brief visit after a few days with lion. Frederica Kipp Ward travels to Washington D C to join her soldier aviation husband who is a top flight instructor.
Mr. and Mee, Frank Bowman hosted a family dinner last Friday to mark their first wedding anniversary. The gathering featured card games and attendance by Moselle Messecar, Mary Messecar, FE Bowman and family members including A B Bowman, S C Bowman, Joe Withell, Hugh Hollinger, Sharon Bowman, and others.
The Hidalgo county meat committee is established with Tom Clayton as chair, joined by Dr. J. H. Baxter, George H. Cureton, Freeman McWhorter, and Paul Hudson, County Agent. The panel aims to address the county meat problem.

Mr and Mrs L B Robinson and Mr and Mrs Donald Johnson and son Allen returned Monday evening from a week long fishing trip in Alpine Arizona. They report a delightful time and that the fish were plentiful. Allen was the prize angler of the party.
The American Legion Auxiliary met at Mrs. Moselle Messecar Jast's home on Wednesday and elected officers including President Mrs. Jack Heather, Vice-president Mrs. Jomer Brooks, Secretary-Treasurer Mrs. Frank Bowman, Sgt. at Arms Mrs. W. W. Scott, Chaplain Mrs. George Haltom, and Historian Mrs. Roy Kerr.
Mr and Mrs C C Fuller are visiting their son Basil and his wife in Long Beach California. They plan to return around the 16th.
A large audience attended the UBO club room dance Wednesday evening, with numbers growing as the night cooled. No dance next week due to the UBO Caravan showing at the Camp.
Water well drillers in the state may apply to his office for allotments of controlled materials in amounts necessary to carry on their business. Murray Sprague district manager of the War Production Board announced today. A special provision under the controlled materials plan defines water well drilling as the drilling and casing of water wells, including laying pipe underground to bring water to the surface, and laying surface pipe for pump connections.
The N. and T. Club met Tuesday with Mrs. A. L. Green. Attendees included Mrs. S. M. Chase, Mrs. R. B. Ownby, Mrs. F. R. Poage, Mrs. H. L. Scofield and Mrs. F. M. Fisher, who was a guest.
Mrs Mary Lee Fairly and her children Miss Marilyn and Oren spent the weekend at the Richards home in Rodeo. Miss Katherine Richards joined them and left Tuesday for Silver City to attend summer school at State Teachers College.

Mrs Linnie Nagley of Virden and Albuquerque visited Mr and Mrs John Muir. A luncheon for Mrs Nagley was hosted by Mrs Mary but she left early. Guests enjoyed a turkey lunch and an afternoon of conversation and singing with organ music led by Mrs Chase.
Mrs. Elizabeth C. Foster departed Tuesday afternoon for Chicago to visit relatives. She will travel to Beloit Wisconsin and then Minnesota before returning in about two months.
The Estrada family expresses heartfelt gratitude to friends for aid and sympathy after the death and burial of Elias Estrada. Special thanks to those who sent flowers and offered support, from Juan Estrada and family.
Mr and Mia, John T Muir, Mrs Nex Kipp and children Johnnie and William spent the early part of the week in Las Cruces and El Paso visiting relatives and enjoying local sights.
A Monday high school session of a Scout Training course featured A J Bowman Hd Dalgo county leadership chair presiding. Hon H Vearle Payne spoke on Scouting history and its spread in America. Tom J Mayfield outlined the program’s aim of character development and citizenship. Earl McKeehan discussed community use of the Boy Scouts of America program. future courses planned.
Promoted John Kr Robertson stationed at Camp Gruber Oklahoma rises to Staff Sergeant. 8 Lt Robertson formerly a bookkeeper and clerk in Lordsburg now Medical Supply Clerk. He attended public school in Hot Springs New Mexico and played baseball football basketball and drama. He studied at Western College Albuquerque New Mexico. He is the son of Mr and Mrs L J Robertson of 4720 North 4th Street Albuquerque New Mexico.
Mrs Ralph Clark recovers from the flu and brings her two children home to Rita. The family had been staying at the home of cranipeare Mr and Mrs A L Green.
