New Mexico Cattle Growers Meet Highlights Cooperation Drive

The New Mexico Cattle Growers Association held a successful meeting in Lordsburg with State Land Commissioner Worden and other officials in attendance. A three-cowman county committee was appointed to bolster policing and tax collection in grazing districts, with 18 new members welcomed and 100 members joining the Southwestern New Mexico Association.

The sixth annual S H B Alumni Association banquet was held at Hotel Hidalgo with an evening welcome by John Ball. Maurice Conner acted as toastmaster and J Cloyd Miller delivered the evening address. A central gym ball followed, featuring Hummel orchestra. Robertson Cash Grocery Set to Open With Modern Facilities

Dudley Robertson, longtime Piggly Wiggly manager, plans a cash grocery and market in the DeMoss building adjoining Brock Cafe. The store will offer fresh produce, meats, and quick delivery with super cold refrigeration. Mrs Robertson assists in groceries and a small staff will handle customers as soon as the new store opens.

Ritter Family Plans European Tour on Texaco Vessel

W F Ritter reports Bobby and Billy Ritter will travel to Europe aboard a Texaco tanker for an extended voyage. Later the family, Mr and Mrs Ritter and Peggy, will sail on the Normandy and return on the Empress of Britain in September, staying about two and a half months for a memorable trip.

Frank Stengle Jr commissioned as second lieutenant at State College

Lieutenant Frank Stengle Jr received his commission as second lieutenant in the infantry reserve from State College and earned an engraved saber for being the best cadet officer in the ROTC Battalion. He will do two weeks of active duty with the 410th Infantry at Fort Huachuca, Arizona. accompanied by classmate Lieutenant Thorpe of Farmington New Mexico, who also heads to Fort Huachuca.

John A. Davis Passes at Don Luis Arizona 1937

John A. Davis born May 25 1868 in Mason county Texas died May 13 1937 at Don Luis Arizona. He married Margaret Lemons November 11 1887 and is buried beside his wife in Valley View church yard. Survived by two sons Tom Davis Tudor California Buck Davis Lowell Arizona two daughters Mrs Coleman Babb and Mrs Dee Schooley Quemado Texas and nine grandchildren. He farmed in Animas valley New Mexico after moving there in 1923.

City seeks permanent use of government field for commercial aircraft

Accompanied by Lt WV Apple, commander of Lordsburg Airport, Secretary Holt asked the Mayor and Board of Trustees to apply for permanent permission to operate commercial aircraft at the Government field. A small license fee would authorize publishing the arrangement to all flying authorities and ensure formal recognition by aviation. Previously, commercial ships enjoyed courtesy access under a Chamber of Commerce understanding since the field's government takeover ten years ago.

In the commencement report Ed die DeMoss was named recipient of the Lordsburg B and P W scholarship while Elaine Burrus received the scholarship. Eddie De Moss earned a citizenship award and both he and Willie Johnson received honorable mention in a State Intelligence test.
