Regular meeting notes Dr J L Bolton district health officer explains council duties and food sanitation inspections. Bolton outlines grade system for dishes and ice boxes and warns liquor-sale areas may trigger tighter closures and public health measures.
The New Mexico Cattle Growers Association held a successful meeting in Lordsburg with State Land Commissioner Worden and other officials in attendance. A three-cowman county committee was appointed to bolster policing and tax collection in grazing districts, with 18 new members welcomed and 100 members joining the Southwestern New Mexico Association.
Courteous reception and hospitality extended to Willard E. Tetary Lordsburg by Mr Gammon managers of Hidalgo and New Mexico Cattle Association during the session. Signed by New Mexico Cattle Association First Quarter Board Lordsburg New Mexico June 4 1937.
Beritherell and Sen Cet Berkeley drove Safford on Monday toward Mt. Graham. The group is now living in a cot.
The sixth annual S H B Alumni Association banquet was held at Hotel Hidalgo with an evening welcome by John Ball. Maurice Conner acted as toastmaster and J Cloyd Miller delivered the evening address. A central gym ball followed, featuring Hummel orchestra. Officers for the next year were announced: Hughie Sullivan president, Eleanor Cochran vice president, Addie Louise Conner secretary, Helen Robertson treasurer.
Mrs P M McInnis was hostess to the club on Tuesday. Refreshments were served to members Mesdames A L Green S M Chase F H Singer W H Small G W Trishble H L Scofield Elbert Jones and hostess. Guests were Mrs R B Sundgren Mrs J H Baxter Dorothy Lundgren and Dorothy McInnis.
Dudley Robertson, longtime Piggly Wiggly manager, plans a cash grocery and market in the DeMoss building adjoining Brock Cafe. The store will offer fresh produce, meats, and quick delivery with super cold refrigeration. Mrs Robertson assists in groceries and a small staff will handle customers as soon as the new store opens.
Mrs. A. M. Leverich travels with relatives including Mrs. P. A. Pemny and J H. Leverich to Oklahoma. The group, joined by a sister and husband, visits open pit mines at Santa Rita during their vacation.
Paul Dodge editor and publisher of the Tucumcari Daily News has died. A former president of the New Mexico Press Association he was deeply loved by fellow editors and readers across the state.
Mrs C J Kelly and her daughters Ann and Laura W Lacille were Sunday guests of Mr and Mrs L B Robinson. They brought several late pictures of Mrs C P Sipple's seven year old daughter, formerly Miss Mary Elizabeth Kelly, principal of Lordsburg high.
Mr and Mrs Phil Lynch and their summer guests from Tyrone Dr and Mrs George Dickson of Burlington Iowa and engineer A EX of Redesia South Africa were here Tuesday. Mr Ek is with Pape's Dodge Corporation.
W F Ritter reports Bobby and Billy Ritter will travel to Europe aboard a Texaco tanker for an extended voyage. Later the family, Mr and Mrs Ritter and Peggy, will sail on the Normandy and return on the Empress of Britain in September, staying about two and a half months for a memorable trip.
The Hidalgo Coffee Shop will install the sno breeze cooling system as a permanent improvement. Ongoing painting and decoration will make the shop more attractive when completed.
Mrs. Donald Johnson wife of the Community Public Service Company manager was the guest of honor at a bridge luncheon hosted by her sister in law Mrs George Johnson at Silver City on Tuesday afternoon.
The Church of Christ led by J I Brimberry invites attendance. Bible School is each Lord's Day at 10:00 AM, Morning Worship at 11:00 AM, and Evening Worship at 8:00 PM. Wednesday evenings show strong youth interest and good attendance.
L. B. Scott and his family relocated to Corpus Christi this week, joining the growing community as new residents.

Lieutenant Frank Stengle Jr received his commission as second lieutenant in the infantry reserve from State College and earned an engraved saber for being the best cadet officer in the ROTC Battalion. He will do two weeks of active duty with the 410th Infantry at Fort Huachuca, Arizona. accompanied by classmate Lieutenant Thorpe of Farmington New Mexico, who also heads to Fort Huachuca.
Bryan Hall pastor leads Sunday services at the Methodist Church with Church School at 9 45 a m worship at 11 am titled The Love of Christ and an evening service at 8 pm plus a Wednesday prayer service at 7 30 pm.
Mrs. W. C. Downey leaves Friday for San Francisco to seek a climate change for throat trouble advised by her physician.
Robert Burch left Tuesday to spend the summer with Mr. and Mrs. Albert Burch in Alamogordo, continuing a family visit noted in local society notes.
Mrs. Eddie Allen of the Palace Theatre says Lordsburg will honor a 3 10 PM Tuesday arrival of a special train carrying 148 RKO executives district and branch managers from New York to Lordsburg. The group is en route to the National Convention in Los Angeles. Local effort aims to greet them and show appreciation for their visit.
John A. Davis born May 25 1868 in Mason county Texas died May 13 1937 at Don Luis Arizona. He married Margaret Lemons November 11 1887 and is buried beside his wife in Valley View church yard. Survived by two sons Tom Davis Tudor California Buck Davis Lowell Arizona two daughters Mrs Coleman Babb and Mrs Dee Schooley Quemado Texas and nine grandchildren. He farmed in Animas valley New Mexico after moving there in 1923.
Mrs. Betty Potts of San Diego writes to the Lordsburg Chamber of Commerce enclosing 10 cents for 10 colored postcards of Lordsburg and Route 80. She says she toured the town recently and wants cards for her scrap book of the route and town.
A local judge underscores civic pride by showing a spotless yard and clean sidewalks, urging residents to follow suit and keep streets free of weeds and rubbish.
J Cloyd Miller, superintendent of Lordsburg schools, is named Assistant Dean of the Sacramento Summer School at McMurry College Abilene. State approval came June 1935 with Libbock Texas Association of Colleges accrediting the program as residence work. Courses run six weeks starting June 21 with rapid Texas and New Mexico registrations.
Inspector General C. P. George inspected Lordsburg Army airfield this week under 8th Corps area authority. He praised the airport management led by Sgt. Apple and the efficient force for their fine performance.
Felix Gauthheim Jr. graduates from Las Cruces Union High School with his parents Mr and Mrs Felix Gauthier and brothers Cirdon and Jack and Mrs H D Wright of Animas attending as his guests.
The Jubilee Circle will gather at the Methodist Church on June 17 with hostesses Mrs Parker Mrs Woods and Mrs Baxter arranging the event.
Mrs KR P Smith hosted a six o'clock dinner Saturday night for Mr Smith's birthday. Attendees included Mrs Sanders, daughters Geraldine and Charlotte, Mr and Mrs Marcus Nelly, Forreat Sanders, T R Taggart, Mr and Mrs Young Bounds and their son, Mr and Mrs O Moon and Lola Jane Graham, Mesdames Ed Clark and Sam Killebrew, the honoree and hostess. Many lovely gifts were received.
The Soreheads won both games to lead the league after beating the Miners Friday night and the Cockroaches Monday night. The Cockroaches defeated the Deacons Friday night, and the Deacons beat the Miners on Monday.
The Missionary Society of the M. E. Church met June 4 in the church undercraft with President Mrs. Charlies Puller presiding. Mrs. J. H. Baxter gave scripture, Mrs. R. B. Lundgren led prayer, and Mrs. A. V. Peterson announced the program. Several business matters were disposed of and refreshments served to twenty members and guests.
Edwin DeMoass departed Monday night for Palo Alto California to spend time with his sister Miss Mary Josephine.
Accompanied by Lt WV Apple, commander of Lordsburg Airport, Secretary Holt asked the Mayor and Board of Trustees to apply for permanent permission to operate commercial aircraft at the Government field. A small license fee would authorize publishing the arrangement to all flying authorities and ensure formal recognition by aviation. Previously, commercial ships enjoyed courtesy access under a Chamber of Commerce understanding since the field's government takeover ten years ago.

Terreplane Commercial Cars introduces a Utility Coupe Pick-Up that converts from passenger to business use with a sliding steel pick-up box. The box extends to three positions, measures 491% inches long by 34 inches wide and 11% inches deep, with a 32 inch loading height under the rear deck door.
The Robert Swan Post of the American Legion announces a grand ball at the Palador for Saturday night June 12. The event funds delegates for the state convention in August and aims to attract the Legion convention to Lordsburg next year. Committees work to invite the convention and ensure a large turnout.
Hon Jason Hammond, four years Superintendent of Instruction of Michigan, and Mrs Hammond visited with Secry Holt after the alumni banquet. The educator praised the L M H and A graduates calling them a finer group of young people.

Mrs Sam FP Putton arrived from El Paso and Miss Margaret Molt with Dorothy Barnes from Galford joined their father for his 77th birthday. Telegrams and birthday greetings arrived from many parts of the country including Col Thomas Boles of the Carlabad Caverns who sent greetings from 78 feet underground.
A total solar eclipse was visible in the Southern Pacific region and a number of people watched through smoked glasses between 1 30 and 2 00 Tuesday. Only a small portion of the sun was covered.
The Lordsburg Hidalgo Library met in regular session presided by Mrs Bethel Puller. New officers named include treasurer Mrs Katy Hall and secretary Mrs Pat Ewing. Members present included Mrs Myrtle Tenny Mrs Agnes Edington Mrs Mathilda Johnson Mrs Pearl Gautheir and librarian Mrs Grace Conner. New books received include New Mexico's Own Chronicle by Maurice Garland Fulton and Paul Horgan.
In the commencement report Ed die DeMoss was named recipient of the Lordsburg B and P W scholarship while Elaine Burrus received the scholarship. Eddie De Moss earned a citizenship award and both he and Willie Johnson received honorable mention in a State Intelligence test.
